// More from Josefin Strid

Oh, how haven’t I heard about her before! This woman has some seriously genious pieces in her collection. I love these accessories!

zipper collarthe vest

Zipper collar, leather sleeves & leather harness vest from Josefin Strid, black dress from Diana Orving, printed dress from Acne, all images via Looklet. There are some Josefin Strid pieces sold at Kotyr, but they seem to be from previous collection. The asymmetric blouse, two tone tights and some of the dresses are quite desirable from there…

I’m using these rather lame Looklet images just because they give so clear idea about these items. Again, click for images for back and detail view.

I would not even have noticed that genious vest from Josefin Strid website images, they are so small (but yes, it is there…).

// Zipper insaneness

Oh my god, the zipper-diy-blogger in me just passed out.

zipperdress

Josefin Strid zipper mini dress, found via Looklet (image from there).

Now I’m really going to faint. Pass me the smelling salt, please!

Now when I have my consciousness back I’m adding couple of images. I had absolutely no clue about Josefin Strid before this very day. I had, erm, a Looklet spree (no I was not killing time, that app is really heaps of fun and very useful too, found Lick My Label via it and now wonderful Josefin) — and there are several great pieces from her in the selection.

This shirt with ribbon detail is just awesome! And what do you think about her “maxi dress”? If I had the body I would not think twice about getting one…

// My chartreuse legs

Posted on | October 26, 2009 | 10 Comments

In the middle of the dark and gray autumn…

chartreuse1chartreuse2

…do you ever get the urge to fight back and wear something pale and bright?

I wore today old blush Stella McCartney for H&M knit (this is pretty worn, but I kind of like that), old Marc by Marc Jacobs silk skirt, chartreuse tights from Lindex (a great find for three euros, I’m all about funky colored tights), old Topshop wood wedges in cream lacquered leather.

Wedges work well for rain. Trust me.

// Harnessed in Ann Demeulemeester way

Posted on | October 25, 2009 | 16 Comments

Let me present you probably the best DIY project ever! I was inspired by Outi who did her version of Ann Demeulemeester zipper fringe scarf faster than I even understood that something interesting indeed happened in the Paris catwalks.

zippers1

This piece is slightly different to Outi’s. I decided to rip the AD piece with tapes on the bottom of fringes, too.  The tapes can be tied in multitude of ways, in addition to the possibility to wear it as a scarf I got a very versatile piece of body jewelry. I also opted for simple, nicely structured cotton tape instead of bias tape (bias tape, especially cotton one, gives me some bad kitchen decoration vibes for some reason) — and I preferred the matte look for tapes anyway.

I did not utilize the zipper canvas when sewing the zipper teeth on but cutted the whole fabric part away before sewing. I sew around the zipper, so the teeth kind of keep those fringes in place. This gives slightly less bulk to the tape ends, but even better thing was that I was able to use my rotary cutter for cutting the zipper canvas away. It bite like a beast, about 2 seconds per zipper. I probably could multiply the time by thirty if I had cut them with scissors.

So here I’m wearing it in three different ways. This is slightly different post to my usual ones because these are not actual outfits worn outside home. I apologise the image quality, I really need some additional light here…

zippers4zippers3zippers2

Hanging freely: James Anthony winge print tunic, old waxed cotton pants, Rützou wedges, Tiger of Sweden silk-cotton vest, Filippa-K tunic, H&M scarf. Hmm, I probably will wear something like this next week.

Tied on waist: Zara printed silk dress (in need of ironing, but hey I was not going anywhere with these, anyway), DIY leggings over black sheer tights, leather MC jacket from Ellos, Rützou wedges. Could well go to the bar in an outfit like this. This one looks considerably better in real life. In the picture the chest area looks like a mess — but actually the splatterish print and zipper fringes discussed in very interesting way. And from this angle the dress looks like a sack (especially with my hand up for camera) but actually the tapes gather the looseness nicely and they kind of continue the black tape theme of the dress neck opening. Guess that the iron, better image quality and better angle when photographing would help…

Crossed around the body: Filippa-K sundress, DIY silk chiffon skirt, Divided mesh leggings, Vagabond thigh boots. Festive, but definitely looks like me. Like how the fringe scarf camouflages the slightly too open neckhole (for my taste). Boots contribute to this much more than you can see from the image, the chiffon layer is actually very see through.

Neat T-shirts from Printliberation. They have an Etsy shop, too — with autumn sale…

These lookbook images by Logan White and Katie Miller are quite awesome.

// The surface

Posted on | October 24, 2009 | 2 Comments

maoblue1maoblue4maoblue3maoblue2

The climate here in Finland is far from ideal from a viewpoint of person who enjoys dressing up. Winter is awfully long and cold, the coat is easily the most important item in the wardrobe. Have to admit that I have few…

This coat is an old super cheapie find from local post catalog. It was originally pale blue, beautiful color — but unfortunately a shade that washes me out badly when worn near the face. So I dyed it with dark gray and got this beautiful, slightly sad sade of blue. But for me the real thing in this coat is the material. It is linen mix with beautiful surface texture, great bouncy draping and that wrinkly look so characteristic to linen.

I admit that this time of year I often dress for the surface layer only when running some random errands. I mean what’s the point to think hard what’s underneath when you are going to keep the coat on anyway.

Everything else here is pretty familiar stuff, I wore the Divided mesh leggings over black leather look ones for some texture (that really contributes, but unfortunately it is impossible to see from these images) and warmth, some random black tunic underneath (yeah, the surface matters), Rützou wedges. Could not resist adding the pink corsage — the coat has the slight Emily-of-the-New-Moon-of-current-days vibe going on anyway — and for some reason I felt like underlining that today. The pink corsage is the newest addition in my small corsage collection, which in this case might mean that the piece is under two years old.

// And the darkness falls upon thee

Posted on | October 23, 2009 | 2 Comments

Ok, I’m munching down my lunch here and pondering the recent practical problems of blogging. This morning it was so dark that my camera could not even focus. And when I quickly browsed through the images taken with manual focus I decided to give up this time. That’s too bad, because I had a special theme in mind for todays post: from work to party.

I’m wearing a simple base of Gina Trickot leather look leggings and a black sheer Acne T-shirt. I added a metallic bronze pleated vintage Dior skirt on top of that (it’s much more bronze than it looks like in that image). It is long enough to wear as a dress and so I did. The neckline was lightly camouflaged with Marimekko for H&M giant disc neclace with orange, black and olive green patterned fabric. Anette Görtz jacket makes a nice top layer that tones the metallic dress down to the work and disquisess the “skressness” of my skirt as a dress. A.F. Vandevorst shrug adds some warmth, this time I wore it asymmetrically with only one sleeve on, the other half just rolled around the neck. And the Rützou wedges.

// Oh, it’s coming up nice!

This evening I have been busy sewing the zipper teeth to cotton tape… …and I just can’t wait to be finished. Can’t really say that I feel very creative — but my thoughts about the possibilities of this great accessory more than keep me going. This piece will be slightly different to Outi’s with freely hanging zipper ends. I aim to the exact replica from the image above — the tapes on the bottom make the piece extremely versatile. That means 88 zipper ends to be sewn, 66 should be done tonight by the bedtime.

Oh, insanely beautiful! A necklace made of small vaccine bottles from Star of the East. Upcycling at its best. The shop is really worth a visit, even for those who appreciate more traditional approach for jewelry design.
