//// On getting on with my life with Stina

My taste for music is probably quite wide, anyhow quite a lot of stuff on my playlists fall under category “alternative”. I find it bit funny, especially with names that are huge commercial success at the same time. But of course some artists fit to this description perfectly, making music that is hard to categorize — and at least some measure are out of the mainstream. I mean, “singer songwriter”, “pop/rock” or “dream pop” tells as little about Stina Nordenstam’s music than that infamous “alternative” tag — and although her music has been featured in several films in last years you probably haven’t seen her on best seller charts or heard her in the jack FM played in your local gym.

I really don’t remember when I first heard her breathy voice mixed with often minimalistic, artistic and sometimes restrainedly aggressive backgrounds, but I remember thinking about never hearing anything quite like it before. Lyrics don’t get me excited too often, but Stina’s melancholic — sometimes depressed even — lyrics are indeed an important part of the whole experience. Somehow the whole effect of her music still manages to be something else but depressive for me, it kind of reflects the fragility of happiness and life as a whole — in beautiful, touching way.

Me and Stina clearly share some views of personal style, I recognize the elements of slightly childish playfullness… :)

I have quite hard time watching this, but I think that it is definitely worth it:

i share your thoughts on tina: the playfulness appeals to me as well, as do her lyrics. “the diver” is one of my favorite songs from the “this is” album in addition to “so lee”… never saw the video before though… devastating.

i have always loved stina. i first heard her back in early or actually mid 90s when little star was playing on mtv. just perfection. and i agree with both you and stella on the fabulousness that is stina.

i’m usually very into lyrics and stina has a very.. unique way of writing them, she seems to capture certain feelings and emotions and.. well, everything in a way that no-one else can. her melancholy and depression also has gone from deeper to more playful and even happy from one album to another. on dynamite i think she reached the ultimate low when it comes to seeing no light anywhere where this is has sparks of light and a certain nonchalance to the world around us. love her.
