//// Osklen detected

From Scandinavia to Brazil!
I recently found out a brand that made me very curious. It is “Brazilian Moncler”, Osklen. Leading man behind the brand is former doctor and mountain climber Oskar Metsavaht, who has no formal fashion education. (I have to say that his name makes me think more Estonia than Brazil.) Like at Moncler, Osklen’s roots are also in sportswear. That might sound boring… …but in the best cases this promotes wearability without compromising the design. And it looks like Osklen achieves exactly that.

The summer 2010 collection is pretty awesome, I’m especially drawn to diaphanous layers that make a weird optical illusion, I feel a strong urge to grab those dinosaur shaped 3D glasses with red and blue lens and see how these would look through them… …the multicolored, layered garments are amazingly rich and serene at the same time, and I also enjoy Oskar’s unusual take on lace. I’ll bet that I would find bagfuls of wearable separates from Osklen, but I’m also afraid that these are priced like Moncler…
The current winter collection is worth a look, too. There is such an effortless take on draping jersey, that my eyes feel soothed after looking it through.

i’m from brazil, so i can talk about them.
Osklen has been one of the brands that shows some great design in a very brazilian way. This collection was inspired by carnaval, but not in a cliche way. I’m not really found of this collection, they had done it better in the past. But the winter collection, which came before than this summer one here, is one of my favorites!
Just like UnoCasa said that are some brazilian designers emerging lately to the rest of the world, but they have been around here for quite a time, you have to check Alexandre Herchcovitch, and Priscila Darolt (she has her own brand, but also works for Animale).

Priscilla Daroit and Animale are previously unknown for me, but I’m definitely checking them out! Thanks for the tip!
I browsed through all Osklen collections, and I really liked what I saw. Now I have to get my ass to Rome to actually see them in real life… …or check if they retail in Berlin or London, my next destinations…
