The door in my wardrobe*

//// Even more Jolier

Posted on | December 19, 2009 | 15 Comments

I think that my relationship to Jolier One will be long and strong one. Here I’m wearing it as a part of menswear inspired ensemble. The pants are the All Saints ones seen here before, shoes are those familiar Rützou wedges (I wish that I could wear these pants with brogues but they are just a tiny bit too long for that — and I like the extra lenght with heels so I have no plans on shortening them). The shirt is really ancient and from Sisley. Gosh, today when I visit Sisley or Benetton I find hardly anything interesting. I’m not sure but I have this vague memory that when I roll back for say 12 years those both brands were actually rather interesting. This shirt has a classic cut with slightly extended cuff slits on the sleeves, and the neck opening extends just under bustline. And there is not a single button in it. So the structure nods a little bit to decostructionism without being too flashy to wear on everyday basis. I love it and aim to keep it for the rest of my life. That’s an achievement, shirts are not my favorite garments.

My first plan was to construct a vest out of Jolier, but the deep neck opening of the shirt changed the plans. I kind of like the stronger feminine accent of it worn in this way, as part of the “suit” — and the hooks and loops look particularly fetching on the front and upper edge. The really old Filippa-K coat fits to the big picture. Bag hanging on the chair is Sonia Rykiel Domino.

Thanks! The remote really makes the world of difference for the self portraits, you can see it clearly on my right hand on the first photo. I took a slightly more expensive model that uses radio waves for communication — no need for pointing towards the camera. And the camera itself… …I’m so in love, the difference to my old 300d with the kit lense is HUGE, love, love, love!

I was long hesitant with the Jolier One, on idea level I was interested, but most of the pictures I saw of it it was used as quite independent piece… …and I was mainly interested in layering possibilities. Which are endless, I see it now. I could even consider a second one, those Seccoshop ones with wild prints would be so great!

Which camera you have now then? I´m still just planning to get one… But seeing these photos I would like to rush to get one. The difference is huge!

Jolier One toimii upeasti tämän asusi osana — todella inspiroiva kokonaisuus!

ok, i wouldnt bother playing with this jolier thing but you seem to make a good sense of it, indeed. funny, i went into masculine direction on todays shopping trip too. :) got a waistcost, which is totally identical to the one by Helmut Lang (page 36 Olivia magazine for Jan 2010 and i did not see that magazine before i got that waistcoat :) ). The waistcoat has 2 layears: outer layear is longer and sides are floating but the inner layer closes tightly on buttons. I so very much loved it and it is worth ever eur out of 36 that i paid for it. planning to combine it with white shirt too. the spirit if very similar to the one you are presenting in this post. love the pic where you sit on a chair.

Jalouse: the camera is Canon EOS 500d with 18 – 200 mm 3,5 – 5,6 IS lens. The lens is really good pick for this kind of use, the angle is wide enough for indoor use (even in crop body) but the long zoom makes it extremely versatile. The only negative is the size of the lens, I definitely want something lighter for traveling purposes. Rajala has actually a good price for this package. The remote is Hähnel.

Kurarin, Jolier would suit you very well. too!

Lisa: it is not that much fuss than you probably would think, hooks and loops are a snap to close. I would love to see your vest… …girl, when are u planning to start ur blog?

Beautiful! Looks like an editorial photoshoot. I’d gladly pose in my outfits if you could come over and take some photos of me. :) Any trips to Canada planned?

I have a blog but it is so miserable…:) i promise i will take a photo of my vest soon. maybe today? i will buzz you then. and i got another bargain from Gina Tricot — the graphical rose dress in shades of grey. the print is very very similar to the strapless one you have by H&M (the reason i started checking your blog). but this one is a short sleeved version. love it but i know all teens will have it soon. this is the sad part of buying stuff from H&M and GT… but so what, right?! :) ))

Steff, thanks — haha, I haven’t planned a tri to Canada, I’ve heard that it is freezing in there, too! I wish that I can do that, some day, though. I’m pretty sure that in many ways a Finn who is able to communicate in English would feel very “at home” in Canada.

Lisa… …I’m pretty sure that it is not miserable, your clothes purchases sound always very interesting.

Personally I’m falling in love often especially with H&M pieces — so I have to have some tolerance to t that similarity issue. But for example that photographic print dress — I haven’t seen it a single time on Helsinki streets on someone else. On blogger scene I remember seeing a bustier top made from the same fabric, maybe on lovely Susie Bubble? I guess that we tend to have so many clothes that it is not that probable to actually meet someone with the exactly same stuff on.

From GT I seldom buy anything else than hosiery, leggings and T-shirts. I guess (I might be wrong, though) that they might have longer runs for the products than H&M (at least compared to the trend and Divided Exclusive lines I tend to prefer). Bit on the other hand, I have one rather awesome ruffled cotton tank top with beautiful exposed contrasting zipper on back from GT — I thought that at least that one should be a darling of all style bloggers. Guess what. I’ve never seen it on on anyone else than me…

H&M actually does not seem to change the offering for quite long periods, especially compared to absolute leader in that sense — Zara, which changes stuff weekly and especially winter collections contain SO many nice things. GT is strange, i have love/hate relationship with it. Yes, i remember your ruffle top in powder pink and i would have bought it too, if i only saw it. i have a ruffle top in pale grey/green from H&M, which has been hanging there for the past month, i noticed and colour is so unflattering on a hanger. but it is amazing under a black blazer with skinny pants or under a long fine knit. here is the rose dress from GT — opinions?
