//// I found COS

Ok, I’m a total high street dork, before my trip to Berlin I was totally unaware about the quite fabulous high street brand called COS. Although it is part of H&M group it has not embarked to Finland yet, and that is a shame.

COS has more comprehensive and coherent take on the selection than H&M that separates different lines for different target groups. It is bit misguiding to say that COS offers wardrobe basics with and edge, but I’m going to still say it. Not that many of their pieces won’t stand at their own… …but somehow lot of the selection seems to be such that it can easily be incorporated to most wardrobes.
The prices are bit higher than in H&M but still very affordable, comparable for example to Zara. But that comparison reveals also one difference. When Zara trusts for lightning fast copying of catwalk ideas to middle priced ready-to-wear, COS really seems to have a design philosophy of it’s own. And that really sets it apart in my eyes.
This winter they had lots of really great, subtly structured pieces, jackets with tailored shoulders leaning more to Jill Sander than Balenciaga, tunics and knits with well considered folds steering them gently off from the sack-territory, an awesome laser cut cropped leather jacket and a pair of supplest stretch leather leggings with beautiful shiny finish to name few examples. And some very neat basic footwear with wooden wedges.

Conveniently they had –30% off from all knitwear in Berlin. My gray Filippa-K merino wool granddad cardigan was falling to pieces and I was able to replace it with a very neat, oversized and minimalist cashmere cardigan. The quality feels good indeed, the knit material seems to be surprisingly similar to my Pringle cashmere top. It is not the regular fuzzy cashmere, but very lightweight slippery type with quite “dry” surface, the typical softness of cashmere appears to this type of knit only with wear.

my favorite by far, i really lament the fact that there is no cos in finland. i agree with the observation that they seem to have their own design philosophy, as you said.
the laser cut leather jacket almost made it home with me from paris, but since i know my reckless ways, i decided to leave it for someone who’s slightly more elegant.

I too fell for COS whilst in Berlin, I could have cleared out the whole store! I think the fact that they have their own design philophy really makes them stand out, and like you said, the pieces are easy to incorporate to pretty much any wardrobe (esp. mine heheh). I bought four pieces (a dress, shirt, sweater and a pair of pants) plus some jewellery from COS and the quality hasn’t let me down so far. I’ve been wearing this cowl neck wool sweater like non other, and there is no sign of lint or anything like that. I’m going to Berlin for New Years and can’t wait to get my hands on the discounted COS pieces!:)

It even kind off adds the charm when it is not available at my home country.
I just wish that I could travel more…

…and the most irritating fact concering COS is that you can’t get it in Sweden either. H&M is Swedish but there is not one single COS store in the country. To get your hands on COS garments as a Swede, you will have to travel across Öresund to Copenhagen.
I have searched high and low for a way to shop for COS clothes on-line, but there seem to be no on-line shop available.
Well, Swedes are not known to be patriotic and this lack of COS stores in Sweden really proves it.
