The door in my wardrobe*

*the door not actually being there was a disappointment - but at least I was allowed to play with the clothes

//// Front flash

Posted on | January 12, 2010 | 9 Comments

I’m starting to like this front flash look. It is severe, amateurish, honest — and somehow compelling.

This reminds me a lot of the beginning of nineties. I guess that I have actually lived the whole grunge thing through. But on the other hand wearing giant second hand sweaters, flannel shirts and army boots was not that big style statement back then (well, not for me I mean)… …it was more like a natural thing to do with limited student budget.

But now my slouchy layers begin with T by Alexander Wang dress, DIY chain & cross jewelry, Doc Martens, COS cardigan, Acne coat, DIY mohair scarf, H&M scarf, DIY chunky knit beret. I have hard time with headwear, but I can bear this one. Barely. I still hate how it messes my soft and slippery hair — should have photographed the dress before I went out…

Yes, early 90s eco-poet trend springs to mind!

Love the dress — looks sooo comfy. Should’ve kept it for myself! :) I also have a very hard time with headwear. I own one toque, even though I live in what is usually one of the coldest places ever.

^Yeah, it is super comfy, and I really like the cut of the neck opening. Would love to have some T:s with similar one.

May, haha, was not even aware of that kind of trend… …but describes that well indeed.

you go to H&M if you want Ts with similar neck cut, i own same H&M Ts in 5 colours just because the shape happens to be so good.

and i had to share the news: today i am in Vaasa and the shops are so much easier to browse and i find things that i would never notice in Helsinki. Here came a dress by Soaked in Luxury, with an abstract butterfly print in dark turqouise, beuge and black. And it was discounted 50%, i love it, it is very Pucci but in calm tones.

I like your grey-black period, i am having the same for last 2 months. But now the butterflies broke in…:)

wow! great look, i’m so digging that dress and the way you combined it with the cardigan, but especially with the boots. i’d love to have a dress like that. first-time comment on your blog from me I guess, but I’ve been following it for a couple of weeks now — I like your knowhow and DIY skills :)

it is really interesting that something that can be regarded as rebellious for one time period, would be considered normal in another! but, nowadays, when i think about it, in our day and ages, it seems that everything goes — so what would be our taboo??

anyway, i really like the grunge look — the big black mohair scarf really steal my heart — i am in desperate needs to replace my current black scarf, gosh, i hate them, haha! — have a good night,

    xx

loving the look, it appears to comfy, again. a crucial factor is the length of the dress – it’s absolute perfection! how did you manage outside with it?

i think it’s fascinating how the same items take on different meanings and evolve through time. i have this mental image of clothes going into a huge ball and in every decade random clothes get thrown out automatically in various combinations.

Wow! It looks amazing, all of it! I’m pretty sure I would fall over with a lenghty hem like that :)
