//// To keep or to return
Posted on | May 25, 2010 | 15 Comments

The question is: should I keep or return this Lindex Affordable Luxury top?
For keeping it:
- I love the asymmetric cut (the back is even better with beautiful fabric cascades — but my photos were crap, so no picture)
- It has inbuilt support, so this would be my one and only top with no separate bra needed
- I love the print
- The fabric weight is perfect for the cut
Against keeping it:
- It is polyester. This is not all bad… …when traveling few polyester garments are practical (they don’t crease so easily).
- The straps are faux leather. This is bad. I hate plastic that pretends to be something else than plastic. Occasional perspex heel or PVC panel is ok… …but I HATE FAUX LEATHER. I should probably change the straps.
- The price is bad considering the materials. 60 €.
Without all that love the decision would be easy.
What do you think?

I think it looks so you! I’d be ready to accept that polyester can be sometimes very handy, I’d imagine a garment with that kind of cut wouldn’t be too sauna-like either. Straps I’d change too.
Given these notions and the fact it looks AWSOME on you, I’d be on the keep-side.

If this top was in washed silk, it’d be perfect.
I think the winning points for this top are style and print. If you were to let this go, would you be looking for a substitute like this one? Would you be able to find it?
Sometimes I look at clothing and ask myself if I’m paying for the material or for the style. In an ideal world, I want both. But if I love the style and I know I can’t find anything else like it, I keep it.

I took a look at the same top. Didn’t get it because the straps and the material was so bad. I say return it, you will find something better.
I think the whole Lindex luxury line is weird, what’s with the polyester overload?

I say return it and try making your own version with materials you like x

first i have to say that you look absolutely stunning in this photo. seriously amazing! and i really, really love the top on you. i would diy it, which you are so good at. it just needs the straps changed. and as for the poly. well that is totally your decision. i am ultra picky about fabrics that touch my skin. that is why i am addicted to jersey. that price is a little outrageous though. hmmm… i’m really glad you are making this decision. but it does look amazing on you, i must say!

oh and fringe is expensive, right? i love trims so much, but they get ultra pricey.

Now when I have slept over the night I don’t think that the polyester part even is a problem here. Like I said in the positives, the fabric has perfect weight for the cut, just enough body to not be totally limp, but still very lightweight. The cascades bounce and move when body inside moves. I think this is really difficult factor to get right in cuts like this and it would probably demanded too high quality silk for high street item.
The thing I still can’t really forgive are those straps — and I have to say that they ruined the whole collection for me. There were several awesomely cut dresses in which the clever strapping was in important role. Some straps had even those plastic fasteners in them, that looked just a good contrasting element against the quite festive cuts. But all straps were made of this faux leather tube. Which looks hideous.
I can’t really get it. I just took a look over couple of Lindex cheap shirts I have — and they are good little cotton shirts, with nice material and mother of pearl buttons. Why their “better” collection is like this?
I have still not decided what to do, but I have nine days left. If I keep it, the straps will go.

the only thing i’ve learned throughout the years is that if i consider returning something after buying it, i usually should.
and yes, plastic posing as leather is hideous.
you do look beautiful, though, but i would hesitate saying it’s down to the top’s influence.

Toppi on kaunis — laskeutuu tosi kivasti.
Mä en ainakaan voisi ottaa yhtään “melkein kivaa” vaatetta muutoinkin yli äyräidensä pursuavia kaappejani täyttämään; täydellisiäkin vaatteita onneksi on tarjolla niin paljon!
Mä skippasin tuon yhteistyömalliston just noiden keinonahkajuttujen takia. Miksi ihmeessä matskuksi oli valittu se??? ???

You do look good in it. Nevertheless, take it back, for all of the good reasons you already know.
– Too plastic, i.e. fake
– too expensive, considering…
– too polyester. One believes one can cope with it, but it is sweet self-deception. Polyester does not age gracefully. And you do not want to use any of the terrible “softening” chemicals.
- there are so many beautiful tops for you to thrift in cotton, viscose, linen and silk, full of character and staying-power.

Olin jo sanomassa että pidä, mutta nuo materiaalit on kyllä kaameat. Polyesteriä, oi voi miksi ja keinonahkaa :/ Eli palauttaisin, vaikka tosi hyvältähän tuo näyttää.

went to lindex website to see it better and I think the top is great. I love the front, the back (!!) colour and print but couldn’t really understand the quality of the materials. I think it looks good on you so if think you can change the staps to your taste you should keep it. I may try to make one for me soon!

okay i had to go to the site to look at it because i don’t know anything about lindex. but omg that blouse is amazing! you are so right about the draping, it is perfection. it also doesn’t look like poly but more like it would be a silk and it’s weird because on the site you can’t tell that the straps are fake leather (ewww). i would keep it and just redo the straps, just because i think returning is a drag and it looks amazing on you.

[…] my previous Lindex post one could get an impression of me as a terrible fiber snob — which is actually true. But […]

I think the top looks amazing on you and I would keep it if also feels comfortable. What type of strap would you replace it with?
May 29th, 2010 @ 10:08 am
I was thinking about reworking the leather strap idea. I like the contrast between the lightweight fabric and sturdy, harness-like straps. In this original version the straps are connected from the back, but I’m thinking making them structural from both sides. I could sew metal rings to the top and attach the new straps to it with parrot locks, that would be also quite practical.
