////// The door in my wardrobe*

// I like Mondays

Posted on | August 30, 2010 | 2 Comments

Too bad we got Weekday / Cheap Monday here in Helsinki… …Weekday is definitely my favorite high street chain after COS and I should steer clear from there if I want to limit my high street shopping. Fortunately they did not get the whole Diana Orving collaboration to Helsinki — and definitely not the pieces I would loved to have seen like that grey jersey with black sheer something…

It might be me slightly disappointed to fall trends, lurking the next summer — and pretty much would like to add the sweatshirt with corset cut details, simple cropped knit and silvery jeans and the perfect sheer layering dress to my basic wardrobe right now. Can I has those awesome plastic thigh high boots, too? And that great tube swimsuit — if my boobs magically decide to shrink about two thirds. All these from Cheap Monday SS 2011. I think that Ann-Sofie Back is doing great job in there.

These pictures make me think that I have nothing against minimalism — if there is at least just a slight note of futurism mixed in.

// Speaking of grey

Posted on | August 27, 2010 | 2 Comments

Longer lengths, greys… …that it is for me now. Cropped boxy sweater with awesome texture makes the simple jersey dress just interesting enough — and I love the length of the dress. My trustworthy museum bag has dethroned all my other bags this summer and the handles start to be perfectly frayed. I’m all about sloppiness and comfort these days. And flats work so well with delayed onset muscle soreness, haha!

Textured sweatshirt All Saints, Monki dress, old and dear taupe ballerinas from French Sole. The bag I actually got from my Parisian friend — and it constantly reminds me how much I want to travel to there again…

// Uncolored…

Posted on | August 25, 2010 | 3 Comments

I photographed this outfit in low light, thus the grainy images. I have worn lots of grey, lately. All grey outfits, tonal greys, greys combined to greiges… …yeah, kind of boring but also somehow weirdly fitting for a woman with road dust colored hair and wolf eyes.

This inexpensive little second hand mesh thing has found its way to surprisingly many of my outfits. This time I’m wearing it the wrap piece front under my all time favorite H&M cardigan. American Apparel tank is doing shoddy job underneath protecting my modesty — but fortunately I’m not too shy to show a glimpse of the neon purple Monki bra now and then — especially when the outfit is not revealing by any other means. Jeans are Cheap Monday — and Topshop shoes I bought nearly unused from a girl who could not walk in them. Good for me, these are excellent addition to my everyday shoes! The heel height is actually very moderate (maybe 9 cm) — but definitely too much for totally inexperienced user.

I haven’t been thinking autumn too much yet. August is one of my favorite months, the nights start to be decently dark and noticeably cooler, days can still be warm, but there also are days for light layers like this. I have been buying quite a lot of clothes this summer, even the sales were favorable for me although I did not scour them systematically. I’m definitely not having regrets, all pieces are great and will definitely go in circulation. But now I really have to face the fact that my wardrobe has it’s limits… …I have to start to consider my purchases more carefully — and honestly I don’t have much needs for the winter. I would love to find a sculptural cape coat — and always could add a pair of new boots — but I can definitely do without. Should I stop high street shopping altogether? That would probably be good option to consider…

Two things I would like to add my autumn wardrobe. Geronimo cashmere scarf from Acne for hiding from the bad weather. Rodebjer floral dress for aggressive granny looks.

// Vietto photoshoot

Posted on | August 20, 2010 | 6 Comments

I had a great honor to do a photoshoot for my friend, Minna Kaartinen, who has the pair of busy hands behind the small indie eco fashion brand Vietto. Minna designs very useful daily separates and great accessories from recycled materials, the softest eco cotton jersey, fluid bamboo jersey, handpainted fabrics… …and guess what, she is sewing / knitting / making every single piece herself at her home studio!

The pieces are not actual collection, so we decided to style them one piece at a time, with simple nude separates. The site was the awesome Merikaapeli hall at Kaapelitehdas. We did both simple lookbook/product images and bit of moody set, utilizing the beautiful natural light shining through the giant factory windows. Our model is Essi Vahala, I found her shopping at Forum H&M. So the whole thing was done by amateurs… …but I think that Essi’s gorgeusness and very photogenic Vietto apparel easily compensate my shortcomings in the art of photography and make-up.

Most of these items are available at Vietto Etsy shop.

// Training report part… …um… …sumthing…

Posted on | August 17, 2010 | 2 Comments

Sorry, it has been awfully quiet in here. The new beginning in my training, going back to work after holiday and the continuing warm weather have took their toll. But this will change eventually… …I’ve done one very neat little collaboration project recently — back to that soon — and there are two very, very interesting fashion shows in my calendar, in near future!

Now it is bit over two weeks when I shifted a new gear in my training — so naturally there are not much news about my actual fitness level nor appearance. The training… …six days a week… …bit over hour at a time. This week two of the long workouts will be changed to shorter ones. After the first week I was pretty much exhausted and felt regrets about applying the program in the first place — but I pulled through — and it was definitely worth it! I’ve never experienced this much benefits from exercise in such a short time. I’m in better mood, I feel physically well all day long — and I think that I’ve even started to sleep better. Nutritional habits are introduced gradually, one habit at a time. That was wise, add a strict diet mode to the sudden increase to training volume — you get nothing but huge fail. I’m very, very curious what will happen in the future!

// Does not compute

Posted on | August 13, 2010 | 6 Comments

The exceptional summer is still continuing here — and my super long and loose T by Alexander Wang dress has been pretty much a staple on my first working days. It is perfectly comfortable in the heat but offers enough coverage for air conditioned office. And no… …we don’t have a dressing code.

Again, long lengts go with flats with me — even when the ridiculous lenght of this dress is quite evident. I was about to wash to shrink it, but I’ve grown up loving gathering it when going the stairs and the sculptural column effect the excess hem creates when standing still.

The lovely new thing here is chunky resin bracelet from Sobral, the beautiful pieces of circuit boards are eternally suspended to clear resin. The cuff is substantially heavy, and the sun picks the bronze circuits beautifully.

Actually the cuff got into my collection in special way, Max&Chloe jewelry net store contacted me with a request with small collaboration. I gave it a thought (in Finnish blogs there has been a lot of discussion about product gifts and blogger ethics) — but I really appreciated Max&Chloe’s approach to collaborations, really liked what I saw in the store and decided to go for it. Max&Chloe carries a wide selection of mainly North American jewelry brands, from Kenneth Jay Lane via affordable fashion jewelry brands — my favorite of those probably being Blu Bijoux — to more directional designers, like Sobral. The only problem for European customer is that even costume jewelries easily exceed the toll limits… …hmm, maybe this is just good thing for my wallet! But Max&Chloe international shipping costs are very reasonable, so I’m definitely sneaking there in sale seasons.

// Long skirt

Posted on | August 4, 2010 | 4 Comments

Okay, it’s been a while since I have last been able to cook up something that could pass as an outfit… …but I decided to break the blog silence because I finally found my old long jersey skirt from the depths of my wardrobe couple of weeks ago. I remembered it being good length and I was not wrong. I prefer wearing it with flats an light, flowy layers. The printed top is old Diesel one and the mesh… …thing… …I found from flea market, it has no tags at all so no clue about it’s origins. Wrist chainmail is DIY. Fabric bag and my old flats have been my trustworthy friends in this heat (continuing still).
