// Pencil silhouette
Posted on | December 8, 2011 | 5 Comments

For my body type — curvy and feminine in relatively small boned frame — it would be all natural to explore the classic pin-up silhouettes. I just can’t do that. What I can do is to take a piece or two from that world and mess the silhouette by adding some oversizedness, clumpiness… …well, awkward shapes of my choice.
In my world this egg-shaped sweater is pretty much a perfect match for this old pencil skirt. I like how the sex-kitten angora fuzziness meets perfectly body concealing shape. The knit is heavyweight enough to have some body of its own. I also dug a pair of *gasp* kitten heel pumps with ridiculously sharp toe from my closet. They have looked so outdated for many years, but I still love their perfect nude shade and vintage appeal.
The knit is from H&M, pinstriped cotton pencil skirt with jean pocket details by Diesel and several years old — it’s truly restrictive with close fit, heavy fabric and no walking slit — the pumps are by Bronx, from the beginning of the millenium…

I got the gorgeous Blood Milk lookbook to my e-mail over a week ago — but I just did not have time for blogging last week. However this lookbook and Blood Milk jewelry definitely deserve attention… …better late than never!
Personally I definitely belong to the category of Blood Milk audience who just simply enjoys the aesthetics & design of these jewelry. Occultist notions, healing crystals, jewelry empowering the wearer… …well, lets just say that I’m boring pragmatist who just enjoys these random references to our social history — symbols with meaning piled heavily on them are often good discussion starters if nothing else. Blood Milk does exceptionally good job on cooking unique and awesome pieces out from these rather popular ingredients.
Now staring my deep burgundy nails and thinking how awesome would that giant crystal pyramid ring look in these hands…

I usually keep my nails short — but they grow so fast that sometimes I have some unintended tip length. This time I decided to utilize it, shaped the tip to gentle almond shape and applied the best nearly black burgundy polish ever — Zoya Casey — to half moon manicure with bare moons. So classic that it looks completely contemporary.
Tips for the removal method for half moons here.

// Outer layers

Few days ago I discovered that I can wear this old H&M suede vest on top of my grey leather jacket with rather interesting results — not to mention how much this extends the season for both of these garments. The result is slightly boxy — the vest is partially padded and the collar of the jacket adds some bulk — but I think that the long, narrow sleeves balance that nicely.
I’m wearing the leather layers here on top of old Free People lace maxi skirt (worn as a dress) with Weekday nude shirt, black tights and Rützou wedges — one of the few heels that my knee tolerates these days.
Lately I have caught myself dreaming of more streamlined, more edited wardrobe. That is one tricky desire for me, on the other hand I love the possibilities with my packed wardrobe, love the random finds from the past, love the possibility to “forget” the stuff and then take it back to the rotation. More disciplined approach would make things easier, would make it possible to emphasize quality more than now — plus I’m running soon out of space with this hobby of mine… Maybe I should start with the shoes and just let few of the heels go. Their effective play time has decreased dramatically anyway…

// Look, shiny!

I guess it is safe to say that the season IT-shoe — Miu Miu glitter boot — will not magically end up to my wardrobe.
Instead I’m painting my nails with the most outrageous glitter polishes there is, this one is Opi Rainbow Connection, multicolor glitter suspended in clear base. I managed to get an opaque surface with two coats — but that did not happen with traditional technique — I pushed the glitter back and forth, arranging it to cover the nail surface. The result is bit chunky, but I don’t mind. I could smooth the surface a bit with topcoat, but I think glitter polishes look best like this — the less there is stuff over the flakes, the better the bling.
In real life this color is less multicolor confetti and more really bright and super reflective silver with occasional color flashes. Definitely a must try for all who do not exactly seek subtlety and understatement from manicures…

// As good as it gets

My interest to H&M shoes has been quite low, most of the stuff they make tend to be imitation leather — and being a material snob that is the threshold for me. No imitation leather in my wardrobe. In shoes the material is particularly nasty, it does not breathe, it does not mold to the foot and it does not age, it just decays in use…
So I was very surprised to bump into these 100% leather loafers in there. Leather lined and perfectly quirky — what’s there to not love them?

// Lace for winter

H&M Conscious Collection did not get much blog exposure this autumn — I just wonder why. There were some quite nice pieces — like this organic cotton lace pencil skirt. A perfect, timeless addition to my wardrobe, bit more special than just a plain pencil skirt.
Wearing it here with Samuji paper thin wool sweater and old See by Chloé shoes snatched from some sale on my travels. And I’m not getting used to this darkness… …haven’t even been photographing outfits lately.

// Samuji salon show

Today I visited Samuji mini show for loyal customers. Can’t really brag about my loyality, though — so far I have purchased just one Samuji knit — and even that with –50% price tag on it. But guess that it paid off to write my email address to the guest book of lovely Samuji boutique in the Kiseleff house.
It might be easy to refer to Samuji’s clothes as a collection of quality basics — but I think that the clothes actually stretch further than that. A raw edge here and there, surprisingly cut volume in pieces that initially look like those actual basics, small collection of very desirable accessories, subtly contrasting luxurious materials — like the heavy silk with deer skin in that full hem short dress I still think I need in my life…

// Anna Ruohonen SS 2012
Posted on | October 22, 2011 | 2 Comments

I think that every working woman in traditional office environment should check Anna Ruohonen for beautifully cut shift dresses and separates that could be positioned somewhere in between formal and relaxed — and thus easily dressed up or down. I would gladly add that petrol skirt in fluid jersey (silk?), a beautiful open back silk satin blouse and a pair of silk satin track pants (uh, I’m in the starting point of the learning curve with my new camera) to my wardrobe any time. I remember that those track pants made their appearance in the AW 2010 show — wouldn’t they pair so deliciously with winter wools and other wintery textured materials as well…

Some details of the eveningwear.

// Velvet leaves
Posted on | October 17, 2011 | 6 Comments
I found this Ritva Falla for Marimekko tunic / dress from charity shop recently. It is gorgeous burned silk and viscose velvet — and the body is lined with silk. The color suits me surprisingly well, I thought that the rich honey glow of the velvet pattern would wash me out, but the cool purply grey base binds it beautifully to my palette. It is definitely long enough to wear as a dress, at least with opaque tights — I wish I had a pair of monster wedges and a short A-lined wool coat for serious Charles Anastase F/W 2011 vibe… Like in many Marimekko clothes the cut of this garment is not really interesting — but the fabric saves a lot, and there’s enough of it to tuck and drape the thing to more interesting shapes.
However I don’t have those accessories — thus the tunic will probably end up used with jeans and in layered outfits. I just got the thing washed and happily just fitted it on with my Cheap Monday jeans, KG pumps (older ASOS outlet find, these would certainly deserve more love, they are perfectly walkable despite of the towering height) and a pair of supermarket sunglasses… …and oh, it is again the time of bad quality images — the light is so low…
