// How yellow

Pairing the bright yellow Zara shirt to utilitarian blue / gray origami skirt. The accent color used like this reminds me safety garments — and the effect is slightly wrong — maybe that’s why it feels right to me. I like how there is some severity in the combination of these feminine, soft pieces.
Skirt is 2or+, my trustworthy Rützou wedges — AA tank top underneath the yellow blouse gives a hint of refreshing white. With bright red lip my face does not look all washed out…

// Used state

T-shirt is such a mundane thing, a true wardrobe basic. Most of mine are just plain, solid color ones. I prefer slouchy cuts, open necklines, draping fabrics. Short sleeves and tank tops are both fine for me. I have broad shoulder line and sometimes the T just does not look good around the shoulder — in that case I might end up cutting it to tank top. That is also a very useful way to get men’s shirts customized to better fit (see awesome Tessa from Apparellel doing it, the tied detail on the back makes a huge difference to a boxy men’s cut t).
I like printed / patterned ones as well… …but I can be quite picky. I can’t really use band shirts, the rock’n’roll’o’meter shows about negative readings around me. But these ones I do love… …as you can see from their used state.

The tank is for double bun days… …even better than the single bun ones. “Revenge fiction” is a bookworm’s band shirt… …perhaps not my favorite literature genre but makes me smirk every time I’m wearing it. Both from Blood Is the New Black. These guys don’t print to your regular Fruit of the Looms — I guess they cut their own shirts and both women’s boyfriend cut and tank are simply awesome. Like perfect.

From James Anthony you can find a set of old graphics turned to shirts — and you can even make a customized order. This wing print on long semi-sheer tunic is my absolute favorite. They print to American Apparel and Alternative Apparel shirts… …I’m so very tempted by the A-lined silk-modal tank…

Galaxy and “Once in the lifetime” are from Your Eyes Lie. Their shirts tend to be viscose, not my absolute favorite (does not hold shape well), but drapes well when cut generously, nice cuts — and they do have some great prints!

“The End” is from Printliberation. They print to American Apparel shirts, the tri-blend tank I do like a lot.

This tie dye viscose tank is an American Apparel gem… …unlike most “tie dyes” that are actually prints this looks like it was really tied and dyed. The slouchy cut is also excellent.

// Black belt, white belt
Posted on | November 10, 2010 | 2 Comments

I haven’t been using belts much in the past fifteen years or so. But I guess that I could warm up my relationship to them a bit. I’m still not huge fan of cinching my waist (especially wide ones make me feel too boobalicious), but I guess that I might eventually start experimenting, cautiously under oversized layers or with belts that almost camouflage themselves to the outfit.
My oldest belt (well, not probably in age — but in my posession) is probably this old super skinny InWear one, with wide plain buckle. Extremely useful little piece. The newest addition is NorwegianWood elastic harness belt. I’m very fond of it’s utilitarian, medical / sporty feel and really like to layer it with similar tones — and under loose layers. I also love how the shape adds up to regular racerbacks.

// Autumn silk

I’m piling on some giant t:s and knits, pretending that there is no need for a coat yet. I know that I have to give up soon. But while waiting that happen…
Gray tank AA, yellow one and the giant t from Weekday, DIY cashmere knit thingy, ancient H&M silk skirt, a pair of nameless mohair mix socks and Topshop wedges. I did not catcht the flu.

// Sun dressing

Uh, there is not much happening here, fashionwise. The summer has been exeptionally warm and I’m shuttling between home and the nearby parks in old sundresses, sloppy shoes and sunglasses. This old Zara dress is one of my favorites, the sturdy guipure lace upper fits perfectly and the straps have actually nothing to do with keeping the dress in place. The material is very lightweight cotton silk blend, heavenly in the hot weather.

And when it goes even more casual: cut offs with slouchy tank tops. I love the tie dye in this American Apparel one — and the cut is excellent. A bikini top or an exposable bra is essential underneath (at least with my sense of modesty) — and I like the addition of sheer bra peeking from the arm holes. My Bodas jabouley lace ones and this neon purple Monki mesh bra (a bargain from Monki Helsinki opening — but excellent fit, I’m certainly getting more of these!) have been in constant circulation.

I got one thing from the sales, though. This mohair dress is from Ivana Helsinki and I have been stalking it since I found the pictures of the collection from the Copenhagen fashion week. Well, actually this was not a sale purchase, but a sample piece that miraculously fitted relatively well. Couple of days ago I saw a girl sporting the same dress in different color — but personally I don’t have the nerve to use this kind of material in this weather. So I’m just saving it for the autumnal layers…

// Work vest
Posted on | July 6, 2010 | 2 Comments

One work outfit from earlier this spring. I did not get that excited about the H&M Fashion Against AIDS collection after all — just got this embroidered vest from mens collection. I like it but it probably needs some slight alterations to fit bit better. Or then I might be too lazy for that. Wearing it over AA tank, with Carin Wester chinos and old brass cuff.

// Something blue, something borrowed
Posted on | June 29, 2010 | 10 Comments

I had several outfit photos packed to my hard drive, now starting to purge…
There’s not much about this outfit, it’s just a pile of cheap stuff. The silhouette draws this to the girly-cutesy side, I let the patterns and colors fight back just a bit to keep it from going too sweet. Tank is quite old American Apparel see thru one (I love electric blue in small portions), cotton cardi is from H&M, skirt from Monki sale (excellent piece, the watercolory black and white plaids are such an unusual and eye teasing print), the belt is from flea market (why would somebody like to sell perfectly worn in cognac leather belt, just asking) and the shoes are old Topshop wood wedges. Cat looks a bit upset about my choice of pattern… …I had to assure her that no animals were harmed…

// Sport, Pocahontas style
Posted on | June 11, 2010 | 11 Comments

I really, really dig skirts. The freedom of movement they provide — and the ventilation on summertime! For me it is not even a girl thing, I think that I would fight my right to wear one even if I were a guy.
Anyway… …I’m not riding on trends today, either… …I just happen to have found few quite awesome second hand leather pieces lately — this butter soft Pocahontas skirt being one.
The skirt was originally long a-lined one but I hitched it up from sides and attached with few stitches for this slight bustle skirt shape. Combined it to old H&M silk anorak, AA gray marl tank top and a pair of all white Converse — which in spite of my all effort to keep them bright and clean start to look pretty worn out… …all for this slightly sporty look. At makeup department there is still not much effort, sorry…

// Wear a suit day
Posted on | June 1, 2010 | 6 Comments

As a handful of internet geeks know — today is an international Wear a Suit Day. It is also Wear a Dress Day, but apparently I was in a suit mode.
Im wearing pretty familiar stuff, my suit is not actually a suit but Anette Görtz jacket paired to old pair of Filippa-K cigarrette pants. They are indeed a part of a suit, but I preferred the Charlie Chaplin-esque charm of this convertible jacket to the dry and clean lined Filippa-K jacket this time. The shirt is a customized H&M one, vest from American Apparel and shoes… …yeah, those Rützou wedges. And I changed to navy blue polka dot shirt before actually going out… …it just started to feel right for the day.

// I’ve got straps
Posted on | May 16, 2010 | 3 Comments

Relaxed intergalactic sportswear for casual movie night out. Left my laser gun home, though. I’m wearing applique detail jersey skirt from Topshop, mesh tunic / dress from Weekday, American Apparel lightweight sweatshirt, Bronx sandals, Pilgrim leather strap bracelet and ancient spike bracelet. A bit of tan makes me look so healthy that I can’t believe my eyes, they soon want my picture to the cereal box (not that I consider any cereal healthy… …but well, that’s the image they want to deliver
). Oh, the knee looks still quite battered — no cereal box deal coming up in the very near future…
The film was Ridley Scott on Robin Hood — ah well, the guy can convert even that tale to epic war movie. However I love his taste for cinematography — those cool toned, realistic and not too polished pictures soothed my eye. But Russel Crowe as Robin… …come on!
Best part however was the end credits, the animation going on background was awesome, made me thinking Alexandr Petrov’s amazing work (did not find him from the credits, though, so it was probably not him).
