// White T season

The wardrobe basics — well, they can be even better when they are slightly special. I know that I’m getting back to them again and again, just to clean up the clutter in my mind, remembering how simple dressing up can be.
However this white heavyweight Pour shirt is not exactly a basic tee — but something in-between a minimalistic jersey dress and tunic. The shape and length makes it perfectly versatile and the tail hem just encourages to layer it up with other garments.
It has been so warm and nice lately — thus the lightweight outfits. I love the tunic tucked in to these thrifted and cut acid wash jeans. I left the tight legged jeans purposefully longer — wanted leave more fabric to show off this pretty awesome bright blue / bold bleach wash. Boots are by Ash — and the arm chain by gTIE — honestly it needs some sleeve for hiding the attachment arm band… …works from front with this shirt, but not from the backside — could not resist for the photographing purposes, though…
Another garment begging the company of this tunic: the sheer tail skirt from Weekday. I turned it 90 degrees to get this pleasant hem play — additional perk: my operated knee nicely hidden. Wearing with old supermarket leather sandals, Lindex neck cuff and some very pink lipstick by YSL.

// Thank you, Fleamarket Fairy!

I just cant walk past Fredrikinkatu UFF without dropping in. These days the store is truly clean and organized — color coordinated rails are snap to browse through and the selection is so huge that there sure are some gems hiding…
My flea market strategy is that I often have some idea what I’m after — currently I’m searching for oversized mohair sweater / cardigan, 80’s jacket, anything with great print and silk shirts in bright colors… These ideas can’t be too precise, the best part in thrifting is that the things I find just quite fit to the schema I’m having — thus challenging and broadening my style horizon.
Well, I sure browsed through the jacket rails and my hand just stopped to one particular dry and dense fabric in red rail. Closer inspection revealed it to be an exceptionally well made shirt jacket, probably from 80’s — but the real surprise was the label, yes, the jacket was from YSL diffusion line Variation. The jacket shape was not quite what I was after — not to mention the color, red is always challenging to me — this one is truly vibrant, shifting to orange. But when I tried it on I instantly saw the possibilities.
It is quite a bit a granny jacket, but I think that these neutral colored separates refresh it nicely. Being my trustworthy washed black (grey that is) Cheap Monday jeans, slouchy rose flesh toned H&M tank and my workhorse boots from Ash.

Uh, my self-discipline is about zero — of course I dropped in to Zara sales last week — and naturally could not leave from there without buying something. But considering the current weather (blazingly hot, we are going to break the temperature records next week for sure) this something could not be much better.
100% silk piano shawl dress feels like I had nothing on — but is completely presentable on the summer streets, a perfect combination of cover and free movement of fabric. On daytime I prefer minimal accessories: old Pilgrim sunnies, old Ash perspex (!) prism flats (forgot that I indeed have something perspex), fabric bag, neon coral nail polish. Sorry about the hair, my dorky expression and lack of make up… …I’m pretty much making myself up with sunglasses these days. For evening I can add some layered jewels, the brass net necklace and pendant are from Pilgrim, one with somewhat heraldic motif is vintage.
I’m pretty sure that this dress will be great paired with jeans when the temperatures drop. The whole idea of the it is so simple that I’m beating myself not inventing it by myself. I probably will keep my eyes open for nice patterned silks for another DIY one… …the fringe is just simple net crochet with tassels attached.
I do like summer — like the sun, the heat, everything. But I doubt that I would have this blog if the weather would constantly be like this. Dressing up for dog days is not particularly interesting.

// Selling the killer wedges
Posted on | May 5, 2010 | 12 Comments
Ok… …I have a little story to tell… …this morning I packed my stuff, wore some spring appropriate clothing and took out to horrible weather (heavy rain with occasional wet snow!!!). I was about to board to Stockholm for 2 day trip, involving some work and enough free time to get know Stockholm second hand stores bit better. I pushed through the miserable weather towards the bus stop with handbag and laptop, an umbrella on my hand, wearing my sweet Ash platforms (seen for example in the previous post). I bought them last summer and so far have worn them inside only.
I can’t really say that it surprised me that rigid sole platforms can be very walkable in smooth surfaces but become life threatening on uneven planes… …but I did not give much thought for that when approaching Hakaniemi market square, covered with old rectangular cobblestones about the size of my foot sole…
Hmm, there is not that much exitement in this story, haha! I fell miserably. I strained my outer calf muscle severely and almost tore my LCL ligament and got some minor bruises (fortunately I had my unstretchy heavyweight Lee jeans on, they protected my skin really well). The platforms — unharmed.
So, after this major selling speech — if you are interested in these sweet and invincible little killers in delicious tan leather (size 39, true to size), send me an e-mail (address on the upper right corner). About the price… …I was thinking about 90 eur + postage. And please wear them on unchallenging territory, only!
Will update this post with pics of the shoes in their current condition soon. Ok, here are the pictures. There is a very small scratch on the front of the right shoe (the thin darker leather layer), you can see it on the first and the last picture.
About my Stockholm trip… …I realized pretty quickly that my limbs were still one piece — although hurting like hell, so I changed to my ballet flats on site and kept going. But I abandoned the vintage boutique tour this time, my shopping is limited to the surroundings of my hotel (which is fortunately very central — and I’m not speaking about shopping here but just getting around with my injured limb). So probably nothing too interesting material for blog coming up in the next couple of days.

// Reclaiming the pink
Posted on | May 4, 2010 | 6 Comments

Pink is the color for little girls — but I have no memories being that much into it as a kid (green was my favorite color) so I abandoned it alltogether for many years without too much thought. But I have been reclaiming it back eventually. I like the dirty, pale shades of it, the kind of tone that occurs when a cheap tennis sock bleeds to white laundry. I like the powdery, peachy shades of it and surprisingly they complement my skin tone, even when I’m at my palest (like now). And I really like when it turns acidic, fluorescent, borderline aggressive… …like in this Costume National wool flannel skirt I saved from some random Yoox sale maybe few years ago. The color is definitely raspberry on acid…
I’m wearing it with H&M corset — which you can’t really see too well from these pics, but from up close it shows through the sheer tank top of same shade — and complements the lingerie vibes of my new H&M jacket perfectly. The wedges are from Ash. The lipstick is MAC Impassioned — equally acidic shade of reddish pink, but very wearable, especially when applied lightly, like a stain.

// Soft shades
Posted on | April 30, 2010 | 4 Comments

I think I’m going to spend this whole spring in soft shades. The husband jeans will be my everyday basics and I will emphasize my newly found waist with fitted, waistlength jackets (still quite far from waist belts, though). Powder, marshmallow, cream, ivory, dove… …with denim, leather and preferably oxidised metals. Nothing fancy. Flowing, lightweight, easygoing, basic… …bit like my current life situation, which feels so very welcome after heavy autumn and long dark and very wintery winter.
So I’m wearing old Acne jeans, Ash wedges with some socks I found from my wardrobe, couple of sheer H&M tanks and new H&M jacket. This is awesome piece, the cut is great for my body type and I love the details. And it is not made in China…

// Excuses, excuses
Posted on | March 3, 2010 | 6 Comments

I spilled some tomato soup to one of my favorite tunics a while ago — and it did not come off despite of my efforts on stain removal. That was maybe the lousiest excuse for going some t-shirt shopping… …especially when I abused even that and end up walking out from the shops with this dress, SR knit and even another piece… …dammit I’m weak.
The dress is Vero Moda new “high end” label Very, quite modestly priced for 50 euros. It is silk but the quality is not much to speak about, I had to go through all the seams and cut away the spilling fabric remnants. But the cut is really clever — you can’t actually see all the nice little folds on the side seams in these pics (what was I thinking when photographing this?) — and I do like this particular shade of yellow.
But I think that I was deceiving myself thinking this as an everyday wear to be used right away. Of course this kind of tunic is easy to layer with all sorts of everyday stuff — but the smoothly shining silk is so delicate, even a splash of water can leave a stain to it. Plus… …an additional discomfort factor with silk is the static which is really bad here at wintertime when the air is very dry inside the buildings. At summertime silk absorbs moisture from air, that improves the conductivity of the material and reduces static.
So I’m just dreaming of actually wearing it. With my leather pants from Selected, old sequin jacket (probably from Asos, although it does not have any labels) and wedge ankle boots from Rützou. Or with my DIY tulle leggings, Ash wedges and Pilgrim necklace. It looks a bit risky — but it is just the angle, trust me ;-D. And excuse my extremely tired face, I’m actually starving because of this pine mouth experience…

// Complexgeometries long strap tank
Posted on | August 4, 2009 | No Comments
I knew that I can’t afford too many clothes this summer so I considered long and hard before getting this Complexgeometries long strap tank. Funny thing is that I almost hesitated purchasing it because I’ve seen it in at least two blogs (!!!) — and that was the time I did not even have my own. Like it wouldn’t be a rare jewel in these latitudes just because of that international blog exposure.
I end up to this piece for many reasons — one perhaps strongest was the genious convertibility. When I saw the simple rectangular piece with quite obvious neck hole, two generous armholes and one strange connecting strap it was not immediately evident, but just little bit tossing and turning and the piece started to take interesting shapes. Yep, any of those holes can be used as a neck hole. The generous amount of fabric allows all kind of wrapping options and the piece transforms easily from dress to top and back. The fabric could be just tiny bit heavier — this is slightly transparent to be a decent, modest dress as it’s own. But I don’t care about that too much, this is essential layering piece anyway.
Here I’m wearing it the strap part simply crossed around my neck — bit crumbled and wrinkled after the day in the park — with lightweight, dirty pink viscose wool cardigan from Zara, glass bead scarf and my beloved Ash perspex prism sandals. Boring summer dressing — but probably one of the last times this year, knowing this country.
