Sometimes I feel that this blog is just succession of awkward transition to another. My knitting ramblings yesterday reminded me about Gudrun og Gudrun, I’ve been thinking about writing about them for a while…

Gudrun og Gudrun are two women from Faroe Islands — and they make pretty fabulous handknit wear, some organic jersey basics, even some shoes are included to their collection. There is quite artisanal feeling going on with their pieces — and yes, someone could refer to Rodarte here, too. But I’m not too sure if Rodarte can take the whole credit of large gauge knits, am I totally wrong with my feeling that there is a strong connection to punk aesthetics with those… …maybe even Vivienne Westwood herself has explored this kind of knits earlier?
Gudrun og Gudrun manage to differentiate themselves from Rodarte — and punk vibes. There is some simple, calm aesthetic going on in their knits. Mohair is paired to leather or tape yarn for strong contrasts and a wire makes the hem of light mohair dress to swing like almost weightless crinoline. The textures and patterns are simple and there is no shred at sight. And yes, there is even some *sic* fun fur yarn introduced in their collection =).
