// More from the garden

Haha, the randomness of my findings is mind blowing… …from Balenciaga (the fantasy world) to H&M (my so called real life). I would not mind having this bright little thing lighting up my spring wardrobe. If it is made out of decent fabric, I says.

// Seeing red

Posted on | February 7, 2010 | 1 Comment

Red is a difficult color for me. Bright reds look ok on me… …but I have hard time in the attention screaming company of this color.

However, I’m inclined to readjust my attitude after seeing this weirdly fascinating rose jacket from H&M garden collection. It would create a sea of outfit problems for me — the color and the shape have serious auntie connotations and come on, I’m on the auntie age already, that doubles the dangerousness — but I would still love it’s unapologetic rosey kitchiness.

I would probably try to tame it by slipping it over white and nude underwearish slipdresses. Over a beige fitted mini dress. With jean shorts, simple T and clumpy strappy sandals. The playful part of me wants just to go for the full blown gold coast granny style with this (actually Lin Shaye is wearing a pink, toned down version of rose jacket in one of the pics) — yeah, maybe on next Halloween… Or then again it could just hang on my wardrobe and I could recoup my courage with a half bottle of summery rose wine.

// Toads and shoes and…

Posted on | November 20, 2009 | 12 Comments

theshoes2theshoes

They’re like toad (or two of them) that tried to turn prince (royal twins, maybe) — but did not quite make it. I’m not admitting kissing them, though…

These winklepickers are my pick from the Jimmy Choo for H&M collection… …and I really don’t know what else to say about them except I love them — despite them being the least wanted shoe from the collection at least here in Finland. They are the finest under 100 € pair of footwear I ever seen. With their sewn on leather soles, snakeskin pattern printed leather, studs and rhinestones they could well pass for shoe twice or thrice that price. They are quite over the top, but in a good way. I see them slipping to my outfits with ease.

I know that many people consider these H&M collaborations quite lame, but to be honest I don’t care. The selections in this country are so limited that there is no use to be too snobbish (like I could afford to be snobbish anyway).

Sorry, I got bit wild with my new camera :-D . I had an idea, even, behind this picture craze… …I tried to illustrate that although I do like pile stuff especially around my upper body, I try to do it so that the movement makes the layers to live.

The outfit consists of basics seen here before: Annette Görtz jacket, Complexgeometries top and H&M sequin leggings. To be honest I don’t really like the leggings. They are slightly large and the inner seams are bulging — plus the sequins feel scratchy against the skin even through the fabric. But I wanted to continue the bling theme above the ankle, so I let them do the job.

// Starship trooper?

I’m layering some soft simple and old stuff with the H&M PVC panel pants to tone them down a bit —  Diesel tank with pale star print, dirty pink Zara cardigan, giant A.F. Vandevorst shrug, Docs… …in spite of all that softness this starts to look like a weird futuristic uniform to me. Or some sort of space pirate costume. Oh dear, should I start to grow up and take things (like dressing up) seriously…

// Photographic flowers

I feel pretty embarrassed about the H&M heaviness of my posts… …don’t know why they manage to produce such mass production garments that they really appeal me.

Take this dress. It’s heavy cotton-viscose satin with sturdy exposed metallic zipper on back, full lined, boned, with absolutely delightful photographic flower print with nearly graphic mix of black and white and super vivid hues. What can a girl do, especially when she sees something like this in sale, for ridiculous 24 €? Teamed it to an old cap sleeve T, Kaksi-Två marble print leggings (have I said that I love Kaksi-Två leggings?) and my old rubber band MC boots. For going out I threw on my trustworthy old Filippa-K wool blazer for some grown up kind of flair. No accessories… …but a Lanvin necklace with ridiculously sized gems would be rad with this… *dreaming on*

// Plastic fantastic

It is probably not that evident from the images of this blog, but I have actually lost some weight this summer, going down a size or even two. From the wardrobe point of view this is not a huge problem, most of my clothes are not close fitting anyway — and I’m totally capable to make small adjustments to garments in need of that.

But the one alarming problem was that my skinny black jeans are not that skinny anymore. Usable, yes, but not skinny. And skinny black pant (something sturdier than a pair of leggings) is such a cornerstone in my regime that I can’t do without. On the other hand — because I have a reason to believe that the gradual weight loss will still continue for a while I was not ready to invest too much to a new pair.

I’m so happy that I haven’t been carrying my pennies to H&M and Zara this autumn — but in this case the H&M shopping was kind of justified. I skipped the fall collection totally to save for the better shoes, but to be honest I have been considering some of the Divided Exclusive pieces anyway. And on the other hand, I think that this vinyl panelled stretch twill pair of pants is actually quite nice!

The fit is excellent, the vinyl panels are lined with soft fabric, the zippers are sturdy metallic ones. Could not expect more from 29 € pants. The vibe is bit S&M, but I guess that I can handle that. A counterattack of cuteness always works — and optionally by combining them to minimal pieces I hope that the feel will be more futuristic than fetishistic. I have no fear for shiny plastic, whatsoever. I had a beige plastic skirt few years ago and wore it to death.

For the test run I layered on some cutesy stuff: a H&M nude tunic, Zara silk tunic & Vero Moda scarf. The ruffles you see underneath are actually a piece of tube jersey I have been using as a mini skirt and a top, would probably look nice as a scarf, too. And the shoes… …those Vagabonds. I’m still after the black Rützou wedges… …we’ll see…

// Jimmy Choo for H&M

Posted on | September 24, 2009 | 1 Comment

Probably most of you have been browsing through the excellent preview of Jimmy Choo for H&M on Nitrolicious. I have nothing special to add, just few thoughts and my favorite pieces from the collection.

jimmychoo4jimmychoo3jimmychoo2jimmychoo5

Well, the collection looks complete, more so than I was expecting from accessory brand collaboration — and quality-wise it seems to be very promising. Even the shoes look good, detailed and well constructed. I was really suspicious about them knowing the H&M short tradition with (mainly plastic) shoes. The overall look is very, very eighties glamour — too much of both of those attributes for me to swallow as a whole, but there is several individual items I could easily incorporate to my wardrobe. That gray suede dress is definitely calling my name and I like the rhinestone encrusted black mini dress.

For my surprise I fell in love with a pair of flats from the shoe selection, those snakeskin winklepickers are brilliant! From the heels I would definitely pick these detailed, stitched stiletto sandals. Not crazy about the thigh high boot, it is really high and otherwise pretty standard. From the first leaked pictures I thought that it had a radiant silver platform, but the better images revealed that it was just a shadow under the boot… Would probably be a good pick for a tall person in a need for some serious thigh-skimmers.

All images from Nitrolicious.

The menswear is definitely worth a glimpse, too.

// Chains & fringes

Posted on | August 10, 2009 | 5 Comments

The style blog brainwashing really works and I’ve developed some sort of need for body jewelry.  So visited recently in H&M in hope for some super discounted chains from clearance sales to break apart and to use as material for a DIY harness piece. To be honest this is really dangerous for me — I have decided to steer clear from high street buys made in a whim. I’m saving for the winter booties and one special purchase. So I left that beautiful body-con cotton satin dress to H&M and left out with pile of silver chain and one pair of discounted tights. (A girl can never have too much legwear in this country.)

I don’t like the idea of a chain or a strap going in between my boobs, so I thought to build something that goes simply around the shoulders. But back to the pile of chains; a weird co-incidence is that it happened to be like this, with no alterations involved:

hmnecklace1

Perfect, actually somewhat exactly what I was about to make. First I thought that I will settle with it as it is… …but on the other hand there will be few thousand exactly similar items around so I decided to adjust it just a little bit.

I added some black fringes to the shoulders, simple but quite effective. Perhaps adding some to the back, too. My chest does not need any extra wiggle…

// Lace print

Posted on | July 25, 2009 | No Comments

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I would say that H&M is getting better all the time. Designer collaborations have been great (if not all for my taste), but also the main line gets more interesting. I really like all the autumn pictures that have been floating around the net. Leather obi belts and interesting tailoring — this print on these pants was the definite eye catcher for me, though.

The whole Divided Exclusive collection looks particularly interesting, too.
