// Fashionclash by Dusturbance

One of the definite blogging highlights for me this spring has been the opportunity to follow dusturbance Fashionclash project behind the scenes. I call it blogging highlight because without this blog I probably had never known the fabulous women from dusturbance nor got this opportunity — but so far you readers have been excluded.
I’m definitely not a fashion critic and aim not to be one. On the fashion publishing side I keep things in this blog 100% self indulgent and I publish whatever I want, the emphasis being in indie fashion and affordable brands. With dusturbance there are so many things I respect — and I would definitely have posted even without the background connection.
Anyway — I have been seeing the metamorphosis of simple, beautiful fabrics to these awesome, hand painted ones. The Hitchcockian birds took over the gently flowing silks and sturdier fabrics for bustiers and jackets. The ropes and tapes took sculptural forms without loosing their utilitarian appeal. There were basic pieces, easily recognizable as bustiers or dresses — but then there were attachments, to be zipped and snapped to basic pieces, transforming them beyond the original function. Some of you might remember the idea from Queen Michelle’s dusturbance dress.
The women in dusturbance were not 100% pleased the presentation of the Fashioncash show — and I respected the request to not post instantly after it. And the short wait was worth it — they continued to a collaboration project with new Toni & Guy brand Art Director. This collaboration produced image material which gives you a much better idea about the designs — the hair needs to be photographed from several angles — and thus you can see and appreciate the dusturbance 360 degree take on design. The back view without attention just does not exist in dusturbance world.

Russian blue.
Bengal cat.
Neon pink shopper from UIAH design market about year ago. Or maybe two. Destroys all ladylikeliness, for sure!

// Showing it out

I had a very welcome opportunity to see Kaksi-Två’s first fashion show at Kaapelitehdas today. I have been a fan of their great legwear and awesome leather accessories for a while, so I was very eager to see how far they had pushed their designs for a whole show and collection.
There indeed were some very familiar elements, leggings with marble & zebra prints and couple of new prints. The leathers had expanded from great soft bags to vests and accessories plus one striking cape / poncho that was paired to marbled catsuit. I also loved the combination of black sheer layers with printed lycra — and there were also couple of quite wearable jumpsuits on the show. I’m not actually a hooded sweater girl, but textured vests made simple sweater outfits definitely interesting. A brilliant idea was to co-operate with Saara Kivimäki for the show — her whimsical shoe creations fitted perfectly to Kaksi-Två’s clean lined, easygoing and playful designs. One thing though… …I did not quite get the sauna theme behind the show — the whole vibe of the collection was more urban street than countryside lounging.
I’m quite ready to add some Kaksi-Två leather and maybe one pair of awesome Saara Kivimäki boots to my wardrobe… …and now it is possible. They will be available from Monday at Helsinki 10 and Beamhill.
Sorry, the images are not too good… …I forgot to ask if I may use the flash so I did not. Unfortunately the lighting was very steep and kind of ended before the runway, so some models end up posing in dark spot…

Squishy leather by Kaksi-Två and Saara Kivimäki. Those ruffled boots were stunning.
How delicious is this?

My favorite styling from the show were these textured mesh pants over leggings looks. I think I could use some of that mesh, especially the dropped crotch pair just calls my name… The makeup was actually pretty rad, but unfortunately the upper image of these is the only one that gives some sort of idea of it.
Great texture here!
Happy designer duo Marjo Kuusinen and Piia Keto presenting their first show.

// Dinner rehearsals

I have a dinner meeting next week (or this one — if your week starts from Sunday)… …and my life has changed so much that I can’t actually remember when was the last time I went out for that purpose… So it is probably not too weird to plan things beforehand… …or then again it is, but nevermind. Honestly I don’t need much of an excuse for dressing up game.
However, my third and last purchase from the Fashion Stock Sales is this few seasons old weird harem-pant jumpsuit thingy from vainio.seitsonen — and it was an absolute bargain. It reminds me bit of Complexgeometries mega hose which I have been secretly coveting. The upper part can be worn as a top, as a wide waistband ruched or folded down and it is long enough to look like a tight skirt on top of the pants. It is quite demanding body-wise, but with my well developed ways of self-deception I think that I can get away with it by layering it on top of old, old cotton H&M corset (this piece is actually brilliant and gradually starts to fit me better, you will probably see this once and then in the future) and under the Annette Görtz jacket — which is excellent on covering multitude of sins. Ring is from Kalevala Koru and booties COX from Berlin. I like the distant idea of frock suit in here, with cummerbund and all…
I would love to know bit more about vainio.seitsonen, but unfortunately my knowledge does not extend much further than their very minimalist website reveals. I found one Picasa web album showcasing some Finnish designers on the Frisson Fashion Show 2008 at Palais De Tokyo catwalk — vainio.seitsonen images are the last ones — and I remember few mentions about their work in Finnish press from past few years. Judging from that I definitely would like to know more.
