Crocheted earring utilizing regular jewelry wire. I need more of it to make a pair. This took about 10 meters — and it is quite large, sweeping my shoulder when I’m wearing it.

A simple chainmail cuff with four to one weave. Just wanted to practice the technique with a very simple item — but I think that I ended up with quite usable piece! Closed with seven parrot locks — but I’m considering making it just a bit larger so I can just pull it to my wrist. And maybe a bit wider, too. But I need more jump rings!

// Still no see thru…

I’ve been lusting after Whyred and Alexander Wang lucite heels — but right now I feel that they are relatively easily forgotten. Thanks to Susie. She recently introduced these beautiful, clean lined acrylic Otto jewelry and Helen Furber’s amazing BA work — alas, no news in this blog. And to be honest I don’t have much to add — except that these both designers really hit my nerve of aesthetics. I also feel that those lightweight but mighty in size handmade acrylic jewelry would be exactly what the doctor prescribed to my current jewelry rejection syndrome.
I also have to chime Susie in this — sustainable fashion feels often a pass to sell some sloppy design. But Helen’s work is nothing but brilliant — and I absolutely respect the fact that the sustainability concept runs through the whole manufacturing process — and the shoe can be easily disassembled and the pieces recycled.
The question is — who would like to recycle those beauties? I would treasure them for my lifetime and testament them with strict advise how to keep them for generations to come.

// Plain armor

I haven’t got myself one of those quite popular armor rings yet — but I have to say that it will be very close when these Fashionology rings restock. For some reason my silver jewelry tend to be clean lined and futuristic, this one would be a perfect addition to the collection. The armor shape is directly from knight tales — but the lack of embellishments give it a futuristic aura.

Ok, tell you what… …this is one reason I can not promise to a) be brand snob b) be too touchy about where I have been seen doing my shopping.
Because if I look around there is great stuff in unexpectable places. These adornments are from very grown up profiled high street chain called Chico’s. I run them accidentally via BleachBlack when googling some ethnic costume jewelry — that again is probably the aftermath of seeing The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
They are affordable, they ship internationally, materials look good and some of the pieces are huge. Or gigantic. And did I say that they are affordable.
Can I has?

For today a little project was scheduled… …it involved my hands, some black Man Glaze, my camera, some tropic and mediterranean flora… …and most importantly beautiful creations of local artisan. Back to that later!
Ah, how my eye rests in all that greenness!

China Glaze Chrome 2030 *oops its Khrome* nail polish. I’m in awe: this is just one coat, dries lightning fast — and I’ve never seen a finish like this in nail polish. The silvers are pretty rad, too.
I could wear this with…

// Happy holidays from Digby and Iona!

I have nothing against working as a modest marketing vessel for small brands — when they fit the overall content of this blog. Digby and Iona recently sent me an e-mail about their work — which definitely fits:

Their jewelry work is intricate but by no means dainty. Animal rings have been around a while now, but Digby and Iona’s deer ring might be one of the most beautiful ones I’ve ever seen. I also love the use of vintage materials as a part of the jewelry design — the vintage domino necklace in bone and ebony is so precious, perfect layering piece, I’m swooning all over it. Cocktail rings with contrasting metal “stones” and two finger ring with ornament detail are fabulous, too.
A nice thing to know is that you can get 20% off till New Year with code “holiday”. I feel slight regrets that I already got my own Christmas present for myself… …the deer ring is definitely calling my name.

// DIY body chain
Posted on | December 9, 2009 | No Comments

I’ve been thinking about purchasing a body chain for a while… …but then again those are quite simple pieces and by doing it by myself I could control the details. So I purchased few meters of oxidised brass chain, some jump rings and few clasps — and end up with this piece. The best part of it is that it can be worn in multitude of ways. The basic setting is on the first picture, where the piece is closed from back of the neck and waist. But on the low back I have two clasps, attached to each other in the basic arrangement — so the piece can be easily worn as a big chain waterfall lariat by attaching these locks to the upper middle front. I made also one extra piece to be attached to the main piece (for example center back) or worn over it, I’m actually searching a certain type of pendant to use with this occasionally.
Sorry, I was not able to make any effort with actual outfits. At this time of year I snuggle at home wearing a pair of H&M harem cut sweatpants, couple of tanks ot Ts, cashmere knit worn over, topped with a blanket wrapped around the shoulders (I like cool temperature at home, keeps my brain clear (if that is possible)). I just dropped the two top layers to get a pic from this piece…
I like it a lot worn underneath the clothes, especially with open neckhole.

// Vampire charm

Got e-mail yesterday from Bittersweets, they make some neat jewelry from solid gold and silver. I like especially the vampire teeth bent to heavy ring, lovely dainty feather ring with chain and dagger necklace. But there are some severed fingers, earthworms, maggots… — and extremely beautiful lightweight, extra long pearl necklaces that can be worn in multitude of ways. Their blog is quite helpful to give a good view of those pieces in actual use.
So, dear Santa…

PS. Used to hate all vampire stuff before True Blood… …but those southern rednecks and snaggle tooths with cheesy switch-on sound have turned my head. Who knew.
