Rachele does some magic with plenty of what looks like quite regular bead supplies! These large, colorful necklaces would beautifully refresh an old summer dress…
Bead amazingness from Rachele’s Originals.

// Beautiful feathers

I truly am more interested in accessories than usual, browsing the blogs for accessorizing ideas, Etsy for one of the kind handmade stuff, even honing my own modest skills in accessory making. Personally I often tend to prefer quite sparely and functionally accessorized looks — but I do like unusual, large and visually interesting accessories as focal point, sometimes piling stuff on, but even then I like to center the focus to one area — neck, hands, maybe on the waist in the future…
I really want to avoid the term “statement” here. Come on — what is that as an statement to wear a huge necklace… …“I’m wearing a huge necklace”… …duh… …or is it just me not understanding all the flavors of foreign language? My style is not a statement, it is just collection of stuff I find visually appealing.
Uh, forgive my ramblings, I was just about to post about these perfect summer earrings! Long, lightweight and beautifully made feather pieces by Selfish Birds. Natural and dyed, with silver, gold and bronze hardware.
Want more feathers? Well, there is gorgeous Owlita — found them originally via Kingdom of Style. If I don’t find the lightweight pair too distracting I might start saving to a single or a pair of these mothers of all feather earrings… Black and white ones look so beautiful, but I like the bright solid colors like aqua and plum as well. // Suspending a geod

My DIY department has been pretty quiet — more so than I would like.
I love to work with metal and stones. Unfortunately I have no decent workspace and no access to such, so my jewelry making is limited to combining standard jewelry making supplies. Those supplies tend to be slightly too standardized for exciting results… …so I was really happy to discover that there is a spiritual stone shop just around the corner of my home. I’m not interested in that kind of stuff in general… …but the place is a treasury of uncut crystals and such — less processed, bit rougher stuff than in your regular beads store. Plus I just love stones, I even collected them when I was a kid — so the little shop truly was like a candy store for me!
Four slices of agate just had to come home with me. One of them is a beautiful blue slice of hollow geod — so I just suspended it to pile of gunmetal chain of two weights, arranging and attaching the chains semi haphazardly. The large stone looks pretty good against the not too dainty arrangement of dangling dark chains. My images of the finished necklace were utter crap — so excuse the “artistic” take on “product picture”.
My other idea involves some drilling of stones — and I forgot that we lost our drilling machine in the last move, so I have no idea when I can actually execute it.

Well, there has been lots of jewelry browsing lately (the clothes shopping break, perhaps
)… …and it has been a long time since I last time introduced any Finnish designers here — so — good thing I got a mail from Chao-Hsien Kuo from Chao and Eero.
Chao started her studies in US and jumped to the unknown just because she got a recommendation of goldsmithing school in Lahti. She did not speak the language; and frankly these –20 C temperatures can be quite unwelcoming — but she enjoyed the school and was able to see to the soul of Finnish people — truly we are friendly and honest people, there is just a coating of grumpiness, bad manners and terrible drinking habits covering and protecting our delicate inners!
The rest is “the usual story” (her own words) — she met Eero Hintsanen, a goldsmith as well — and Chao and Eero is their love child.
I saw their jewelry for the first time couple of years ago in a young designers sales exhibition at Stockmann department store. Finnish designers are known to get inspiration from the nature, in such extent that it can be almost tiresome. But Chao and Eero have a delightful playfulness going on in their nature inspired designs and the urban vibes live parallel or mix to the organic elements, that makes their designs stand out for me.

Pearls… …meh… …except in these Bubbles stacking rings! I love the unusual take on the most conservative of all adornments.

Butterfly series, heavy brushed silver with surprisingly delicate looking, quite minimal detail. The cuff is so beautiful.

The brand was born on Valentine’s day 2005 and “Follow your heart” series celebrates the 6th anniversary. I really like the delicate and traditional shape of heart mixed to the strong, semi-organic, almost futuristic shapes.

“Inbetween rings” are bit of their trademark, you can find one in most of their collections. The sign rings were the first inbetween ring I had ever seen, I remember being quite baffled before I figured out the concept…
I have been bit absent lately, but I just did a small project related to this blog, back to that soon, I guess!

Oh, I got this beautiful Astley Clarke ring as a Valentine’s present. It has a special function — it is my #2 wedding ring. The smooth and thin Rapture works perfectly well in everyday use, I don’t need to remove it when washing my hands — and it feels good and natural when on. Still… …it is a very special piece with lots of character, and I love the variety I get with the white gold original and this gold plated new one.
Well, I probably need to switch my gloves to mitts… …but that I should have done ages ago, we are having such a wintery winter here right now…
The people in Astley Clarke sure know a thing or two about the customer service. Look how lovely little pressie I got!

It feels that harness jewelry is bit of everywhere… …still I am in awe with extremely beautiful examples, like this architectonic leather harness piece by Mode En Module. Via Kabiri — that jewelry store is definitely worth a look.
