Weekday accessory selection is not extensive — but I do love the accessory jewelry they make. Rose gold knuckle ring, matte rose gold double finger ring and antiqued silver necklace (huge and weighty), all from Weekday.

I discovered a while ago that indeed there is enough room space to use my cheap 50 mm lens for outfit pics (it’s 80 mm in actual use because of the shallow mount of Canon entry level SLRs — the lens is for the regular one). The camera is on the living room side and I get bit of the wall to the right side — and the wardrobe to the left as you can see in the second image. But the lens allows me to photograph in the low light so I have been experimenting with it lately. Now I just need some active USB-cable to connect directly my workstation — so I can use it as a screen — that should help enormously with the focus…
The outfit is nothing special — I often (try to) dress up those denim cutoffs with shirts or lightweight knits for random summery strolls in the town. Westwood boots are actually great in the summertime, well ventilated and the taupe color goes with everything. The shirt is old thrifted one — there is this mysterious Finnish silk brand called Järvi-Muoti (Lake Fashion… …uh, oh
) — I don’t know where the pieces are actually sold but I do come by a piece from them in the thrift shops every now and then — and very often end up buying them… Well, I suspect some of those iffy looking “silk shops” I have seen here and there, maybe I have to check out the one I remember — because regardless of the fashion status of this brand they do make some really nice basic pieces… …all in pure silk. Oh, I do have the other of my two planned sales purchases on my neck: the beautiful Sou Brette necklace. I’m so in love with it — and it definitely deserves some better images in the very near future…

My DIY department has been pretty quiet — more so than I would like.
I love to work with metal and stones. Unfortunately I have no decent workspace and no access to such, so my jewelry making is limited to combining standard jewelry making supplies. Those supplies tend to be slightly too standardized for exciting results… …so I was really happy to discover that there is a spiritual stone shop just around the corner of my home. I’m not interested in that kind of stuff in general… …but the place is a treasury of uncut crystals and such — less processed, bit rougher stuff than in your regular beads store. Plus I just love stones, I even collected them when I was a kid — so the little shop truly was like a candy store for me!
Four slices of agate just had to come home with me. One of them is a beautiful blue slice of hollow geod — so I just suspended it to pile of gunmetal chain of two weights, arranging and attaching the chains semi haphazardly. The large stone looks pretty good against the not too dainty arrangement of dangling dark chains. My images of the finished necklace were utter crap — so excuse the “artistic” take on “product picture”.
My other idea involves some drilling of stones — and I forgot that we lost our drilling machine in the last move, so I have no idea when I can actually execute it.

Well, there has been lots of jewelry browsing lately (the clothes shopping break, perhaps
)… …and it has been a long time since I last time introduced any Finnish designers here — so — good thing I got a mail from Chao-Hsien Kuo from Chao and Eero.
Chao started her studies in US and jumped to the unknown just because she got a recommendation of goldsmithing school in Lahti. She did not speak the language; and frankly these –20 C temperatures can be quite unwelcoming — but she enjoyed the school and was able to see to the soul of Finnish people — truly we are friendly and honest people, there is just a coating of grumpiness, bad manners and terrible drinking habits covering and protecting our delicate inners!
The rest is “the usual story” (her own words) — she met Eero Hintsanen, a goldsmith as well — and Chao and Eero is their love child.
I saw their jewelry for the first time couple of years ago in a young designers sales exhibition at Stockmann department store. Finnish designers are known to get inspiration from the nature, in such extent that it can be almost tiresome. But Chao and Eero have a delightful playfulness going on in their nature inspired designs and the urban vibes live parallel or mix to the organic elements, that makes their designs stand out for me.

Pearls… …meh… …except in these Bubbles stacking rings! I love the unusual take on the most conservative of all adornments.

Butterfly series, heavy brushed silver with surprisingly delicate looking, quite minimal detail. The cuff is so beautiful.

The brand was born on Valentine’s day 2005 and “Follow your heart” series celebrates the 6th anniversary. I really like the delicate and traditional shape of heart mixed to the strong, semi-organic, almost futuristic shapes.

“Inbetween rings” are bit of their trademark, you can find one in most of their collections. The sign rings were the first inbetween ring I had ever seen, I remember being quite baffled before I figured out the concept…
I have been bit absent lately, but I just did a small project related to this blog, back to that soon, I guess!

I just made the notice that my wardrobe is seriously lacking statement pieces. That observation might have been just a lousy excuse to spend the rainy day on the computer, browsing Etsy. But look what I came by!

Melissa McElrath makes beautiful, chunky jewelry for her Only the Brave Etsy shop. Every single piece in this shop calls my name. Unfortunately my cash situation does not allow any purchases right now, but my favorites are certainly updated right now!
