////// The door in my wardrobe*

// Sweet obsolescence

Posted on | February 9, 2012 | 2 Comments

I finally got my old (+ 12 years) wrist watch repaired. Originally this sport watch had a pleasant rubber wrist band — but it did not really last in use, so it was replaced with a steel band from the same manufacturer. I have to say that I love it — however obsolete thing a wrist watch is in these days — especially considering gadget freak like yours truly.

I’m not wearing anything special these days. Just trying to keep warm underneath multiple layers of wool and second hand fur. Today I was brave enough to pull on a thick pair of tights under bright orange neoprene skirt I got with mere pennies from ASOS final sale. Both this fluffy wool second hand coat and H&M angora sweater have proved themselves in the freezing temperatures. Good thing I’m not prone to itching, coarse wools just encourage the blood circulation on my skin and make me feel extra warm…

// Outer layers

Posted on | November 18, 2011 | 1 Comment

Few days ago I discovered that I can wear this old H&M suede vest on top of my grey leather jacket with rather interesting results — not to mention how much this extends the season for both of these garments. The result is slightly boxy — the vest is partially padded and the collar of the jacket adds some bulk — but I think that the long, narrow sleeves balance that nicely.

I’m wearing the leather layers here on top of old Free People lace maxi skirt (worn as a dress) with Weekday nude shirt, black tights and Rützou wedges — one of the few heels that my knee tolerates these days.

Lately I have caught myself dreaming of more streamlined, more edited wardrobe. That is one tricky desire for me, on the other hand I love the possibilities with my packed wardrobe, love the random finds from the past, love the possibility to “forget” the stuff and then take it back to the rotation. More disciplined approach would make things easier, would make it possible to emphasize quality more than now — plus I’m running soon out of space with this hobby of mine… Maybe I should start with the shoes and just let few of the heels go. Their effective play time has decreased dramatically anyway…

// The everyday story

Posted on | October 14, 2011 | 9 Comments

Dear all. Im’ here to warn you about the dangers of self-employment. You might end up on endless rut of wearing T:s and denim — and getting overtly excited about a pair of jeans that don’t act as a cat hair magnet at all. Imagine the couple of extra minutes you get to share with your morning cuppa…

T-shirt by Blood Is the New Black, rubber coated jeans Cheap Monday, Rützou wedges.

This is also the time of year I try to extend wearing my lightweight leather jackets (that one is a great sales find from Selected Femme from last year) — the favorite fabric piles include this DIY poncho with gorgeous texture, it acts like a giant snood — an the yeti like Mongolian lamb vest, adding scarves and other sheepy items depending on the temperature. And what’s the thing with the fabric bags — I seem to pick one almost every day over my leather ones… I love the lightness and that carefree look of them — plus this one made of H&M Lanvin collaboration fabric remnants is particularly cheerful.

// In the black jean rut

Posted on | May 28, 2011 | 6 Comments

The truth about my everyday work wear has been bit sad and monotonous lately. This spring has not been particularly warm and I have lived in my black or washed black Cheap Monday jeans. For work I like to add a shirt or t-shirt — and a jacket for some structure. This is all old stuff, ASOS shirt — which I have apparently snagged from the back. It is semi transparent, but not this much — I added the contrast to the images to get out more detail from this lovely Gestuz jacket — and for the mood… Hmm, the necklace I bought quite recently, it is from Lindex. I was about to go for the gold one, but the industrial charm of the shiny silver just looked so much better in person.

Oh, if someone wonders my sudden eagerness of wearing my hair open… …well I guess there are couple of reasons. First of all it starts to be in length that looks quite balanced on me. Second — I bought a GHD straightening iron a while ago — and it kind of lives to the hype. It is an extremely well made tool, warms in seconds, glides on hair and is hot enough to smooth the hair with one or two swipes. It takes under 10 minutes to straighten my baby fine hair — a huge improvement to the previous 20 – 25 minutes… …I certainly can do that couple of times in a week in spite of my low maintenance tendencies…

// Found Fendi

Posted on | April 8, 2011 | No Comments

Our trip to Rome was not a shopping trip — but we did visit in few little boutiques and vintage shops — those are plentiful there. The absence — or very weak presence of all chain stores war pretty amazing from my Scandinavian perspective. We did not visit the outlet shopping areas in the suburbs of Rome — but actually it is possible to find small outlet boutiques comfortably within the city range.

Anyhow, my find from this trip is second hand — a beautiful wool and silk mix coat from Fendi second line, Fendi 365. The collar and cuffs are trimmed with softest of fur fringe — I can’t really say what it is, the hair is trimmed so that I can’t recognize it. The oversized, dolman-sleeved shape is perfect in all possible ways — I have plenty of clothes that are difficult to tuck underneath fitting overcoats. I was really inclined to invest to a piece of Anywho / Kobra overcoats with quite similar fit, but I was faithful to my promise to not buy new clothes this year. Well, now I’m happy I was — it would have been hard to justify this if I already had that one!

My fluorescent yellow satchel makes a perfect spot of color against the cool taupe color of this coat. See how retina burning fluorescent it is — although the fluorescence does not really show up on digital process, you can see how the bag lights up the nearby area with yellow glow! Otherwise there is not much happening with this outfit…

…and yes it’s still this cold…

// The X

Posted on | April 6, 2011 | No Comments

When I saw this X shirt in Minna’s stash I knew it should be rightfully mine. My infatuation to neon colors seems not to fade. The outfit is nothing special — a girl wearing jeans and t — but I like what the handpainted neon X and the short shirt length do to that uniform. Cheap Monday jeans, ASOS cardigan, Vietto shirt, Selected leather jacket and Pinko scarf. I tried to capture the lovely texture of the scarf in the first picture, but it was bit too late (=dark) when I shot these.

Hmm, I think my smile is all normal IRL — but in pictures I end up looking like a witch who eats babies as breakfast. Especially with my hair open…

You can also observe one phenomenon in my latest outfit pics. I have been taking them quite often. So — I do get stuck with certain pieces in everyday wear. Right now they are these black Cheap Monday jeans — they are bit thicker denim and thus perfect for winter and they fit perfectly — their vice is that they are a terrible cat hair magnet, ASOS cardigan, Rützou wedges which actually go out for the city strolls only, it is still quite icy at periphery — but they are replaced by my Vagabond wedges when I need better grip to the surface — and those give pretty much similar visual effect… I need to get out of the rut — but that needs warmer weather!

// A suit — sort of

Posted on | March 26, 2011 | 1 Comment

It can still be quite wintery here — but thick tights start to be a pretty safe choice. That means that my last autumn Monki find, an affordable pair of very work appropriate length leather shorts will get some play time. The subtle texture play of feathery H&M jacket, crisp cotton shirt (probably from H&M, too), softly shiny leather and matte tights were the starting point for this outfit, with my safe bet palette with black, white and grey. Horn necklace from Etsy, Savage Salvage.

// Dipped & dyed

Posted on | March 13, 2011 | 7 Comments

I should not really do a single hair post — my hair tends to be totally unimpressive. Like a damp (yes I still do excercise 5 to 6 times a week) ponytail or hastily done updo… …I hardly use any hair chemicals because I hate the feeling of them (except some shampoo and light conditioner) — and even my special occassion har tends to be very simple & natural. So consider this an outfit post — which have been scarce these days…

Plus I can’t really say that I’m one of the early adopters doing this, but I just dyed my hair partially… …teal.

Nah, not really! Few weeks ago I decided to dye a set of clip-on extensions. Originally I thought I would like to use them just to get some extra length and body to my now bra strap length, baby fine hair. But they just stood in my dressing table cabinet, waiting to be dyed to my mouse brown color — and the more I thought about the idea, the less I liked it.

Until I got the idea of ombre dyeing them. Originally they were bright, cool blond, with very subtle darker highlights. First I used some regular dark blonde dye for the top part, combing the color downwards vertically, section by section when time passed to get a smooth color slide to the blond color. I washed them and applied the bright turquioise direct color to the ends and tried to fade it upwards with water. It worked pretty well — although I would have liked more pastel colored result, the direct color I used was really intense. But they are pretty useful this way too. I like that they make a dramatic difference to my normal hair — and I don’t feel like a total impostor, trying to play the hair-goddess-of-the-night… …the look is honestly artificial! My lightly layered hair mixes to the extensions pretty well — although dip dyeing their ends blond they would mix even better *thinking*.

Wearing a Monki t-shirt with chiffon hem, Cheap Monday regular black jeans (Weekday & Monki sales really got me after Christmas :S) and my old, trustworthy Rützou booties. With this hair I don’t feel that I need tons of accessories… …if any…

// Black belt, white belt

Posted on | November 10, 2010 | 2 Comments

I haven’t been using belts much in the past fifteen years or so. But I guess that I could warm up my relationship to them a bit. I’m still not huge fan of cinching my waist (especially wide ones make me feel too boobalicious), but I guess that I might eventually start experimenting, cautiously under oversized layers or with belts that almost camouflage themselves to the outfit.

My oldest belt (well, not probably in age — but in my posession) is probably this old super skinny InWear one, with wide plain buckle. Extremely useful little piece. The newest addition is NorwegianWood elastic harness belt. I’m very fond of it’s utilitarian, medical / sporty feel and really like to layer it with similar tones — and under loose layers. I also love how the shape adds up to regular racerbacks.

// Wear a suit day

Posted on | June 1, 2010 | 6 Comments

As a handful of internet geeks know — today is an international Wear a Suit Day. It is also Wear a Dress Day, but apparently I was in a suit mode.

Im wearing pretty familiar stuff, my suit is not actually a suit but Anette Görtz jacket paired to old pair of Filippa-K cigarrette pants. They are indeed a part of a suit, but I preferred the Charlie Chaplin-esque charm of this convertible jacket to the dry and clean lined Filippa-K jacket this time. The shirt is a customized H&M one, vest from American Apparel and shoes… …yeah, those Rützou wedges. And I changed to navy blue polka dot shirt before actually going out… …it just started to feel right for the day.
