I found this rabbit trapper hat (or Hrustsev hat… …eh) and a pair of almost unused English derby shoes from fabulous Kiliwatch.

My interest to H&M shoes has been quite low, most of the stuff they make tend to be imitation leather — and being a material snob that is the threshold for me. No imitation leather in my wardrobe. In shoes the material is particularly nasty, it does not breathe, it does not mold to the foot and it does not age, it just decays in use…
So I was very surprised to bump into these 100% leather loafers in there. Leather lined and perfectly quirky — what’s there to not love them?

All these beautiful leather items are from Etsy seller Karen Kell. The pieces are folk and vintage inspired — but still manage to look fresh. These are not even the only gems I spotted in her extensive Etsy shop. I relly like the link structure she uses in both shoes and bags, combined to the hand tooled leather it somehow brings Rodarte to my mind. Gorgeous work!
Thank you for the hint, Minna!

// The concept of black shoe

Once and then (not too often
) I get mail from fashion designers, their PR offices — or friends. My own radar has quite limited range, so I’m most delighted when I find totally new designers this way.
Phong Chi Lai is a shoemaker / designer from Melbourne, Australia. In addition to shoes he makes bags and accessories — jewelry, black leather sleeves… I’m drawn to handcraft and I feel almost physical pain because I can’t examine these shoe designs in person. For me they represent a perfect yin-yang approach to women’s shoe — it’s almost like the gender was insignificant factor to designer. The masculine elements are there, but they are exaggerated and combined to feminine elements so that makes they look all new. They also seem to lean to the past and to the future at the same time. The chunky wedges are tied around the ankle with delicate cords. The ballet flat borrows the cords from the sneakers. The clumpy wedge has absolutely zero prettifying elements. The masculine boots have well thought details that make them stand out from the mass produced ones. The chunky cone heel is combined to equally chunky buckles around the ankle.
It is a difficult task to beat an interesting looking wedge in my books, but I guess that certain unusual pair of brogues just did it. A block heel and the unapologetic cut between black and white leather elevates the classic brogue to new heights, well, quite literally! Nah — in real life I would have truly hard time choosing! Click the images — some of them are just larger, some are delightfully huge!
In the sea of ever-wearable black shoes these definitely look fresh to me — and very much something I would LOVE to wear. Waiting for the international retailers…

The shoe fairy could bring any pair of these Vagabond spring shoes to my door — and I would be very happy girl indeed!

I’m a sucker of ballet flats — for me it is the next best option to going barefeet — which is never happening for me as long as I live in the city. Right now I’m quite drawn to this raw and beautiful pair from Spirocreations.

I got myself a pair of Jeffrey Campbell boots from Stockholm sales, lovely Flying A sells them. I really dig the wooden sole, subtle cut-out detail in the heel, pointy toe and grainy leather in these… …plus as far as I know they are not an actual knock-off from any designer boot. The last is comfortable and they are quite walkable — but naturally the sole does not bend at all, so I have to be careful.
And they are certainly not for this weather:

Can’t wait until the streets are clean again!
