// Autumn wishlist (with reality check)
Posted on | August 25, 2011 | 1 Comment
What I truly would love to add to my wardrobe this autumn is the gorgeous suede jacket by Di$count — and a pair of two toned flats by Marcell via LN-CC. The jacket is such an awesome piece with all the detailing, I know I would treasure it a lifetime… …I think that the price is more than fair for item like that. The practical side: in this climate one just can’t own too many jackets — and my persistent knee problems have been sort of guiding my shoe interests lately.
On the other hand I have made myself a promise to start saving a bit — and honestly there is not much else to shave from than my clothes spending. Thus I will probably look after a nice second hand pair of classic brogues, with minimal details — and get couple of Tibetan lamb skins from Leivonniemi and sew a simple, shaggy but lightweight jacket by myself. Thanks for the tip, Sissi!

// Two things

Two things I would like to add my autumn wardrobe. Geronimo cashmere scarf from Acne for hiding from the bad weather. Rodebjer floral dress for aggressive granny looks.

// Autumn sorted out
Posted on | July 15, 2010 | 6 Comments
I think that I’m less inspired by the autumn fashion than usual. The fashion press is sort of exited about the retro vibes and wearable classics, but in a sense of inspiration they don’t do much for me. Celine was practically the same as summer collection with just a bit heavier materials, Marc Jacobs was — dare I say — boring, Prada managed to look somewhat fresh in spite of the heavy retro feel (but still — dare I say — uninspiring), and all that camel color in numerous shows really made me yawn. And I’m not particularly delighted about the black-red combination resurrected in many collections. Of course there were some highlights — Alexander McQueen last collection is breathtaking (but so inaccessible that I’m not sure if it inspires me) — maybe a bit more accessible use of feathers in many collections, remembering instantly Demeulemeester and even Marni, chalk stained “tough geek” collection of A.F. Vandevorst, accessible looking “preppy grunge” collection of Rag & Bone with some nice layering inspiration, Rick Owens was rather impressive, the return of velvet and shearling in many collections, some collections with neat ethnic vibes… …yes, there is more, but I’m still not too inspired. I know that this is totally unnecessary whining from a person with zero fashion credibility…
…an that makes me think that maybe it is just the summery weather we are experiencing here. Or I need the autumn Collections edition from Elle to propel my enthusiasm. Second thought — those two might mix pretty well!
Still — I have sorted out what I would like to have for next autumn/winter — and that is not much.
Some shearling — preferably a luxurious aviator jacket from Acne — but I’ll bet that I have to settle to some vintage. Or maybe I could rework my mom’s old shearling coat.

Or this lovely hat from Gudrun og Gudrun. Would be immensely practical in Finnish weather. Actually everything shearling would.

A cape/poncho. Preferably with ethnic look. I surely don’t want to be one of those wearing the Chloe cape copy now available (or at least for the autumn season, check H&M) from every self respecting high street chain. I’m thinking some South American feel with not too ornate decorations, maybe something simple, rugged and handmade like this poncho from Ecuadorian Hands. Would look great over my regular jeans and boots — could even blow the dust off from my old brown Mulberry Phoebe bag.

Something velvet. For some reason I have been eyeing bags a lot, this Kyoko Wanai for Fairy Woodland piece from Yoox sale is pretty awesome — totally unnecessary, but so pretty, striking directly to my dark romantic nerve.

But maybe I’ll check Carin Wester and Dagmar for some plush wear. Sorry, I broke my nerve when trying to find some decent sized images — but there is some wearable velvet action happening within both of these collections.
An perhaps some feathers. There are lots of them in ASOS sale. DIY would also be a good option.

I definitely will bump to numerous desirable items when the season actually starts — but these I could probably justify… …sort of…
And no — these don’t match. But they would complement my current belongings in delightful ways…

// For contemporary hourglass figure
Posted on | May 23, 2010 | 2 Comments

If I ever get my body to state where I actually enjoy showing off my waist, my first purchase will definitely be this artLAB waist wrap. Oh, I love it so deeply… …thanks, Steff, for reminding me the existence of this awesome Etsy shop. Only the relatively high prices have kept me buying stuff there. I’m not saying that they are too expensive being awesomely designed artisanal items — but the additional taxes and other expenses limit my outside European union purchases to relatively cheap ones. Some day my wardrobe will contain something from artLAB, though, I’m sure about that.

// That one is so not me! Or is it?
Posted on | December 20, 2009 | 12 Comments
Tavi run just recently a giveaway in her blog, the item was a Rodarte for Target lace cardigan.
I dropped in a line or two, but to be honest without too much passion. I really like the cardigan, but hello, Tavi’s pick was her favorite color, mustard — or more like ochre to me. That color is so not me — see where we are going?
Ok, I did not fall asleep instantly last night (can’t really remember when I actually have), so I let my head to start the “combine the yellow cardigan to the current wardrobe” — visual game. Because this underdeveloped network called Internet does not allow you to plug in to my visual apparatus directly I had to make some quick doodles in very old fashioned way to explain what was going on in there last night. Sorry, three out of five outline snapshots came out blurry, I guess that we made this years darkness record today. And all my ink tips were wonky, so no nice fluid line today, just very quick and dirty throwing-the-ink-towards-the-paper stuff.

Ah, this one is a real cookie cutter solution sharing the same elements to the Target styling with less California surfer rock and more the girl next door. A white A-lined pull-on shirt with pintucks on hem and nice rolled collar from H&M, Costume National wool flannel skirt in raspberry pink, chartreuse plastic necklace from Gina Tricot, bone white wedges wit wooden sole from Topshop.

More attitude with Filippa-K printed silk shirt, an old skirt reconstructed from military trousers, burgundy (yuck, how did that come out so ugly — the actual colors of the skirt and tights go together so well) lace tights from H&M, Docs.

My old black Diesel antifit jeans with yellow stitching, H&M striped T-shirt, docs, leather cuffs. So easy that it is actually lazy.

I have worked the idea of monochromatic jersey layers a bit further from my first trial. I found an thunder gray AA tank pair that makes a perfect foundation for this, and the old Malene Birger ruched tunic is almost the same shade. I will add an oversized white AA see through tank underneath and slip on a white vintage girdle I just won from eBay (wow, visual interest and tummy control in the same package). Then a pair of seriously oversized skin colored tights, maybe destroyed a bit, wrinkling around the calves — and my all white Converse.

For some not-too-formal party I would wear an old, beautiful Rodebjer silk dress constructed from mauve and gray chiffon over Sonia Rykiel for H&M bustier and H&M mesh leggings with my gray booties from Berlin. And that mustard’y thing wold be a perfect clashing cover on my shoulders…
For the summer a very simple combo of billowing silk jersey chocolate sundress with smocked top from Filippa-K, perspex prism sandals from Ash. There were easily at least four more of these, but now I’m tired on doodling.
Suddenly I felt that my wardrobe is seriously short of mustard yellow lace cardigan. I could go out from my color comfort zone for it, really. I’m all about going out from my comfort zones occasionally. I know, sounds a bit ridiculous, this one is cardigan, after all, the most inoffensive of all garments…
What about you, do you have comfort zone in colors? Shapes? Prints? Skin exposure? Combinations? Overall styles?

// You wish! (in black and white, almost)
Posted on | December 14, 2009 | 5 Comments
So this is my ultimate wishlist for this Christmas. Of course this is just for fun, I don’t expect anyone to buy me apparel worth hundreds (or thousands) of euros per piece. But a girl can dream, right?

Alexander Wang Anya booties, in 39… …do I have to explain further?

I have decided that I will never start to collect bags. I have one perfect smallish black bag that hopefully lasts my lifetime (Sonia Rykiel Domino with silver studs). I want to add perfect large and perhaps even mid size black bag to that — and I will be eternally happy. Alexander Wang Diego would do the task of medium sized one perfectly. Image from Reborn.

And the large one Lumi Accessories Supermarket XL bag in vegetable tanned black leather. Actually this one would be in almost daily use. Image from Shop Lumi.

A roomy coat, preferably from Comme des Garçons. Image from Style.com.

Ok, that’s so expensive that I have to give a budget option. Coat from 2or+ by Yat, can be short but it has to be roomy enough to wear over thick sweaters and fitted wool jackets.

Andromache’s Deconstruction dress in white, from Artlab.

Gareth Pugh fringe jacket (image from Polyvore)

Jean Pierre Braganza sheer layer dress, image from Jean Pierre Braganza blog.

Whyred perspex heel (help I have perspex heel fixation!!!). Image from A Perfect Guide.

…stop making the most covetable shoes…

Belville booties with delightfully architectural heel, Metropolitan pumps with extremely angular, but still classic shape and badass stiletto heel. Metropolitan — I need you in my life!

// Their nudeness
Posted on | September 16, 2009 | 3 Comments
Ouch. Another fixation — and no room for it in the wardrobe plan. I would love to have a pair of nude boots.
I think that the whole thing started from Minna Parikka corset boots. Overall Minna’s designs are bit too cute for my taste, but in this case I love the lingerie references and the classic shape of the boot. And I’m kind of intrigued about the idea that these boots don’t have zippers at all. So wearing these would always be a little number itself, all that lacing and cinching… To be exact these are not nude, but the powder color is nude enough for me to put them to the same category.

Rules by Mary has a neat, also very classic and a bit more practical version. Love the stitching and faux lacing detail.

Ok, those both are like nice and definitely would get lots of wear but…
…these Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair wedges are PERFECTION. They’re like the Demeulemeester lace ups (which I love, too) in second power. I think that it is pure luck that they don’t have these in the online shop, because I would have abandoned my sensible wardrobe plan just for these. Hello, I would have probably done much more extreme deeds for them…
And I would treasure them forever…

// Beautiful wedge
Posted on | September 6, 2009 | 5 Comments
My autumn wardrobe plan consists four items, and probably the most important is a pair of ankle boots, been saving for them for a while. I’m currently turning to these Rützou wedges, the only problem is that I have seen them only in suede here in Helsinki, and that is probably too vulnerable material for everyday use. If I’m able to hunt them down in black leather they will definitely be my choice.
